Introduction


It always has been, and it always will be:
Every midsummer's eve, without prompting or fuss, the Ancients of Eldemore gather to watch the moon set upon waning year. Nobody knows from whence the tradition stems, but it would be terrible taboo not to attend.

Especially this year.

Great things are afoot in Eldemore. Humans (those dull, brutish, awkward creatures, called 'stone-skulls' amongst other things by some of the unkinder dragons) have begun to take an interest in Ancients. The dragons have taken to evading notice when never before had they been forced to hide. For, while some of the attention is flattering, some is not. Rumour suggests that Ancients have been screamed at, injured -

- and even killed.

Eldemore is changing, and for better or worse, the Ancients must take a stance: of change or stillness, of acceptance or resistance.

It always had been. But change creeps up on all of us.

Summary


This is a roleplay for Ancient Rune Dragons, predating summoner bonds.
This roleplay is only open to those who own custom Ancients from Chicken Smoothie's Rune Dragons, or who have claimed an on-site Rune Dragon in the Companionship Index.
It is a semi-literate and relaxed-pace roleplay. You won't be expected to post every day, or 1000 words per post. However, it would be cool if you could post at least once every two weeks, and at least about 150 words, just to make sure everyone else has something to work with. You are expected to have decent grammar and spelling.


Rules

1. All Eldemore rules, both site and roleplay, apply.
2. God-modding and power-playing will be taken very seriously. If you use either of these techniques, you will be asked to leave.
3. You may ONLY have one character, and it must be an Ancient Rune Dragon which you own personally, or have been given permission to roleplay by its owner.
4. OOC must preferably be taken to PMs. Non-roleplay posts, which only consist of OOC, will be deleted. OOC is really frustrating.
5. Please do not break off into a separate, semi-private roleplay. If two individuals end up posting, one after the other, for more than six posts, you need to wait, or try to join the group. This is to prevent character isolation, and make sure we can have fun together.
6. Ancients CANNOT use their powers against other Ancients in this RP. This is to limit god-modding and power-playing.

Basic Personality:
Death is characterised by detachment. He does not get emotionally invested. He does not get involved. He is distant and aloof. He is not verbose, and every word is carefully chosen, only delivered when necessary, and when the time calls for speech. Death is proud, but not quite arrogant. He does not act with superiority, but he does carry force. He is not easily roused to anger, but his wrath is quick, crushing and completely without mercy. Death's judgement is final, and will never be reconsidered. He is dedicated and patient, and will never leave a task unfinished.

His pleasures come from simple things. He likes speed and he likes precision. He takes thrill in the fleeting happenings of life, but not without some regret, for he knows that, eventually, everything must end under his art. Perhaps Death takes pleasure in his own power, too. If he does, he certainly never admits to it. Then again, he does not admit to anything much, when it concerns himself. Death is alone, and that is the way he prefers it. He has no desire, or perhaps is unable, to make friends. He is not forthcoming, and while he is an excellent listener, he cannot seem to 'tell'.

Most creatures desire companionship, at the very least in order to procreate. Death has no such desires. He does not wish to befriend other ancients, or other creatures, and has consciously decided not to create a pact. He feels that pacts are dangerous, and desires to avoid that trouble entirely. Whatever twangs of regret he may feel, he dismisses. Death is prepared to live alone, not for his own good, but for the good of Eldemore. He witnessed Conquest's acts of power, and has no desire to be corrupted in the same way. He feels that humans corrupt too easily, and has pledged to kill any human foolish enough to seek his pact.

Death is a reaper, but he is not a killer.

Abilities:
Death can take the form of a raven, a black wolf and a dark-skinned human, if he must.

Death can harvest the souls of others, but he does not use this skill lightly. He can only take the soul another creature when its time has come, or when a situation is terribly dire. He also has to harvest each soul individually, which takes time and energy.

One of Death's duties is to ferry souls to the Afterlife. He takes this job very seriously. He can guide souls, but not decide their destiny. Sometimes souls are lost, by his folly or by chance, and they become stuck in the physical realm forever. Death guards these carefully and tenderly, and is always searching for a way to deliver these souls to the Afterlife.

History: Since things have lived, Death has existed. He has grown stronger as life has evolved, for with the evolution of life, so too has come the evolution of death. He cannot remember his origins, and he does not feel that it matters. He is present, and he does his job. This is all that matters to him.

This will be developed as the plot unfolds, and throughout the week.

Basic Personality: Delyth, being the Ancient of Sunsets, understands that all good things must come to an end - but that ending can be delayed and it can be beautiful. She is unfailingly realistic and can swing between optimism and fatalism, depending on the circumstances. She is always frank and it hurts at times, but she knows that life is never fair and acceptance is the key to peace. She is confident in herself and her abilities; this gives her an aura of peace that is unconsciously felt by all living things. It ebbs in strength, just like the sunlight as clouds pass by, but it's always there and always warm.
Delyth has never shared with anyone how she walks a fine line as the Sunset Ancient in terms of morality. She chooses to be on the side of Light, but very easily, with one twisted event, she could fall into the pitch of the Dark side. She could become "as beautiful and terrible as the dawn, treacherous as the sea".
Abilities:
Her powers grown and wane in accordance with the movements of the sun. Sunrise finds her at her weakest, with the ability to cast only one or two spells without fatigue. Sunset finds her fully charged and able to cast up to five without causing herself damage. After that, it's always a risk.
- Sleeping patterns. She can cause you to nap or...never wake up.
- Dwindling light. She can't really create light, but she can manipulate shadows and suck away light. Cloaking in shadows is one of her favorite tricks.
- The Green Flash. That last bit of sunlight on the very edge of the world can be controlled and focused to create a blinding wave of light. Great for escapes.
- Fear. Her most elemental power is to destroy others from within. The approach of darkness will always cause each of us to quaver inside and she can slip her talons into this feeling; it spreads like ink inside your mind until you're reduced to a shivering heap of tears and uselessness.

History: Delyth spent a good portion of her life as a normal Rune Dragon, albeit an old one. Her origins are somewhere within the Silver Sands Desert, but the civilization she once knew has since been scoured from the earth itself. She had traveled far and wide over the vast expanse of Eldemore for at least two centuries, much longer than your average Rune, and knew that she needed to find someone before her heart gave out. This Rune had an old soul; somehow, deep inside, Delyth knew that she needed to Bond and preserve what her soul secretly held.
The sun has always risen and set, so while there might have always been a Sunset Ancient, Delyth is the current and only.

Basic Personality:
Nemestrinus is a rather playful ancient, as he is a relatively younger ancient. He never settles in one place, and makes sure to visit each forest in the world at least twice a week. Sometimes, he pokes fun at some of the travelers in the forests by creating sudden breezes and making the shrubs rustle as he moves, making the travelers suspicious and scared. But before they find him, he will send out a little rabbit or any other small creature to make the travelers think that it must have been the creature making the shrubs rustle. These antics are what you can expect of Nemestrinus on a good day.

However, the forest must burn to be reborn again. Nem knows that, and he reluctantly accepts this fact of life. Although it breaks his heart every time to witness a forest burning, he watches over with a calm demeanor. After a fire, he spreads the seeds everywhere and coaxes the seeds to sprout and grow.
Of course, there are also times when careless people are the ones that start fires, or when people take more from the forest than what they really need. When Nemestrinus hears of these instances, he shows no mercy. He becomes so infuriated with the ones involved in this, he makes sure that eventually, they pay for their destruction of his beloved forests.

Despite how he may become infuriated with these wrongdoers, if there are innocent beings harmed by their actions, he does his very best to help them through their perils. For instance, he will lead innocent people out of a burning forest, but leave the guilty ones back in the fire to pay for their destruction.

Abilities:
Nemestrinus can help nurse a near-dead creature back to good health. However, this takes a great toll on his energy, and weakens him to the point that even moving his head would be a task for him. Because of this, he rarely, if ever, does this and only does this when the person has a very, very good reason to need to survive. He hasn't attempted this before, and probably will not until he obtains a summoner.

He can also promote the growth of plants. Where he has been, the trees will seem to be a bit taller than they were yesterday, or there may seem to be more blossoms on the trees than normal.

With his ability to promote the growth of plants, he can also manipulate their growth to do his bidding. He can manipulate the vines to trip someone as their walking or make a tree grow into a makeshift bridge to cross a river. Once he manipulates the plants like so, they cannot revert back to how they once were, especially if it was a very drastic change. Although it doesn't drain as much energy as trying to nurse a near-dead creature, it is still very hard on him.

(I'm not sure if the first ability is realistic, but I thought as he is the Ancient of the Forest, he can promote growth in other creatures like so? Please tell me if this is too unrealistic, and I can change it.)
History:
Nemestrinus was once a Forest rune dragon. However, a traumatic event helped him transition into a Forest Ancient. For the past few years, he's been visiting the forests around the world to overlook the well-being of the forests and help those who are lost and punish those who have harmed the forests.
There hasn't been much going on with the forests or anything he's involved so far.
