“Just talking to you helps,” Elizabeth replied softly. The intern sniffled slightly but didn’t wipe her nose or dry her eyes. There were no tears to dry, yet. Despite her humanity, which was still a warm light inside of her, tears were harder for the girl to come by. That was more a defensive measure than anything else, an end to a vicious cycle of crying and yelling that lead to more crying.

Elizabeth was about to say something else – she couldn’t really recall what – but one look at Serenity’s face had her frozen, mouth closed, eyes focused. Elizabeth glanced at Serenity’s ears, so horse like she sometimes forget that they weren’t a headband, and watched them twitch and twist. For a brief moment, Elizabeth wished she could hear was Serenity heard, but upon remembering what pain that heightened sense was brought about by, she cursed her thoughts.

Listening to Serenity’s soft warning, Elizabeth rose slowly, brushing nonexistent dust off her thighs. “We’ll speak later,” was all the young intern was able to say. Two guards turned the corner and started down their aisle. Clutching her notebook to her chest, Elizabeth started towards the door, mimicking the other scientists she had seen with her chin up and shoulders back. She passed the guards. They said nothing, only continued to march forward as though every step was a step closer to leaving the Storage Room. Elizabeth let out a quiet breath of air and hurried out of the room. As much as she wanted to, she didn’t look back.

As Fabian fiddled with the wiring and the conditions of the machine, he listened to the other scientist’s words. Humming when appropriate, the young scientist thought very little of the darker moments in Dunbar’s speech. It seemed logical that the older man was envious and spiteful, Fabian would probably have felt the same if someone came and snatched his experiment out from under him. Though, he couldn’t quite understand why Dr. Dunbar would hang on to such spite. With Fabian taking his experiment, Dr. Dunbar was open to start something new. Perhaps that one would actually be successful.

“Certainly dumb like one.” Fabian was snapped back to reality upon the words. He stared at the buttons under his hands as something hot bubbled just below his sternum and spread first across his chest and then down his limbs. It wasn’t a pleasant heat, it was a like a wildfire moving through him uncontrollably. For a moment Fabian considered turning around and reminding Dunbar of how successful the girl was, of telling him how brilliant she was how and how he’d never understand because he had looked at her for all of two seconds and had never had a conversation with her.

The heat turned cold very quickly, and Fabian’s hands moved way from the machine. Why was he angry? When was the last time he had truly gotten angry? And over an experiment no doubt. Dr. Dunbar was speaking again, Fabian tried to listen but his mind was messy. He was angry, so very angry. Or at least he had been angry, he wasn’t sure what he was feeling now. Dr. Dunbar mentioned something about saliva and poison. It would be fine. He said to have fun. “Thank you,” Fabian said, never turning around. His own voice sounded like a stranger’s. It was still cold, seemingly unaffected, but it didn’t sound like his own. It was too distant.

The door closed. The coldness didn’t fade or melt. It remained, a dim throbbing ache. His thought muddled together. Anger, questions, confusion, all underlined with a quiet sense of fear. In a sudden movement, Fabian snapped the panel he’d been working on closed, and the bang and clank of metal on metal was enough to pull him from his thoughts. The young scientists spun on his heels and marched over to the counter. Paperwork, he had paperwork to look at, being angry wouldn’t help with paperwork. He picked up the papers, scattered messily over the counter, and let out a breath, shoving any emotions and useless thoughts off in some far filing cabinet in his brain. Once the mess in his mind was cleared, he turned his attention to the notes in his hand and then the clock above his desk. They should be here-

There was a knock at the door. Fabian looked up, pushing the glasses back up the bridge of his nose. “Impeccable timing,” he mumbled. “Come in.” The door opened and two guards walked in, flanking a young man, eyes unfocused and hands bound. The experiment. He didn't look much like one at first, but when Fabian's gaze met serpentine eyes the scientists knew he was the one. Standing a bit straighter Fabian glanced over to the lab bench along the wall. "Step him down there. I can handle the rest."

"Yeah..." Serenity said in a broken whisper long after Elizabeth had left. A strong smile withering away much like the courage within its owner. Downcast eyes hypnotized by the motion of her thumb caressing the apple's surface, the unease in her stomach discouraging her from eating them but she didn't listen, wanting to savor them while she could and certainly not wanting others to see them. I... I can't... this is becoming too much.
As her world fell into darkness and a silence so thick it was suffocating, Serenity ate as quietly as one could with apples. Snuggly huddling up in one of her corners, she showed her back towards all and anyone that may enter the room. A draft somewhere caused chills to plague her body, and in the momentary bouts of dim light, glimpses of stars were caught falling from her eyes.

Exchanging indifferent glances, the guards obeyed quietly without another word and moved Xavier to the bench, one quick to remove the hand tries in the process. Once they did that, they looked at each other one more time, one shrugged and then they both left to stand outside, waiting for the return transportation.
At the sound of the door clicking shut, Xavier flinched. Bothered by the suddenness of the sharp click as he struggled to pick up his head. Haze irises surrounding slitted pupils, he looked around the room with the same awareness of a drunk man. Uncertain of where he was or what he was seeing until his eyes squinted on something tall and radiating gradient shades of reds and yellows. He twitched at the sight, a raspy hiss forced itself up his irritated throat, causing his gag reflexes to act. Wet and deep was the bout of uncontrollable coughing, even when he tried to shield it in the crook of his arm, it did little to muffle the horrible sound.
Xavier grimaced, annoyed and tired of all this. Locks of curly hair laid in disarray across his forehead as he looked through one, squinting eye. Warily honed in on this heat signature he wasn't very familiar with which made things a bit worse because that meant the room was different, he could pick out some subtle differences, but not enough to aid him if he so designed to try and run away.

He gave a heavy huff as his neck stiffened, fighting back reflexes and stifling the coughing fits. Knuckles turning white as they gripped the edge of the table, not trusting his legs at the moment as he was still under the drugs. All he needed was to fall over, not only making his movements restricted but embarrassing him in the process, and that was something he didn't handle well. Embarrassment.
Taking a moment to cast his sight somewhere else, the tip of his tongue poked out between his lips, appearing to not be round edged like a normal tongue but display vague hints of two points. Not nearly close to be classified as a forked tongue but the similarities were there.

His eyes suddenly narrowed as he drew his tongue back and straightened up, a very alarmed vibe radiated off him like a serpent posed on its coils, uttering another raspy hiss. "Who are you?" his voice was hoarse and forced, struggling greatly with his throat. "I don't recognize your scent..."

Fabian only really got a good look at the experiment when the guards took a step away from him. He was scruffy and looked out of it and droopy, but from first glance alone he didn’t look like much of a snake at all. He was drugged. Fabian wanted to yell. Instead, the scientists let out a breath through his nose and turned back to the counter in order to finish organizing the papers that Dr. Dunbar had so absent-mindedly tossed to the side. There wasn’t much Fabian could do with a half-sedated experiment. It was risky enough to put them in the machine, after all, there was still much to learn about its process and there was always the possibility that something could go wrong. But putting in an experiment that was drugged sounded like a god-awful idea. So that meant all there was left to do was wait.

There was a hiss followed by a terrible bout of coughing. The scientist turned around slowly, eyes on the gagging experiment. For a moment Fabian thought the experiment would be sick. It appeared, however, to really just be a cough, a terribly nasty one at that. Hopefully whatever is causing that will be dealt with, Fabian thought as he turned his attention back to the papers. They seemed organized enough.

Fabian glanced to the clock. How long until the sedative wore off? It was impossible to know without being told what the experiment was given and how much of it he'd been given. Until it was mostly out of the experiment’s system, there wasn’t much Fabian could even do. The scientists looked back across to the machine sitting still and cold on the opposite side of the room. Working on that might not be a terrible waste of time.

A hissing, gurgling noise pulled his attention back to the experiment still seated on the lab bench. His face impassive, Fabian looked over the waking experiment. “You’re waking,” the scientists said in lieu of an answer. “We’ll begin shortly then.” Files in hand, Fabian crossed past the lab bench and back toward the machine. “For now, sit there and wait. We’ll start once all that junk is out of your system.”

Xavier proceeded to hiss, both in annoyance and agony while he glared down the other man, no, more like this damned scientist who wasn't even worthy of being called 'human'. Gripping still to the edge of the table, his body would quiver from time to time, even sway as the drugs gradually wore off to near completion.
"I don't have to listen to a word ya say." he spat out, drool grossly collecting at his chin. Fangs not normally visible began to flex forward in response to his defensiveness, little would they do since they weren't correctly mutated.

With the newly developed swiftness acquired solely from this place, Xavier defied orders and stood up in almost neck-breaking speed. Fists held and drawn close, he stood tensely with his back arched and muscles stiffly held, almost like a coil ready to snap. Muttering a string of foul profanities, he grimaced and appeared to writhe where he stood. Hair bristling up as a chill ran down his bent spine, his own body disobeyed him and thwarted his attempts of aggressive offense.
Breathing raspy and labored, Xavier leaned back against the table for leverage as strings of saliva dangling from his chin, sometimes breaking free and dripping onto his clothes. His eyes momentarily closed before opening and honing in on the sign of heat, the haze of uncertainty caused by the drugs no longer visible in his serpent-like eyes. He swore crudely, cursing out not only the scientist but his own inabilities.

Almost stumbling over his own feet, Xavier moved with a reluctance in his step and a snarl on his lips. Submission was displayed in how he held himself but not once did he allow for the thought that this would be a common thing. He merely complied because he was in pain, all he wanted was to go back to his cage even if that meant swallowing his pride and lowering himself to their standards. Inhuman... hybrids... experiments... ... Monsters...
There was a spark of something dangerous in his eyes, prompt to cause the snake-man to rashly grab the other man by the fabric at his back. A hiss emitted from his partial parted lips as he gave a crucial warning,"If ya dare ever underestimate me, don't think a minute I couldn't beat ya within an inch of your life..." Xavier refused to allow anyone to think they could govern over him, just because he obeyed at times didn't give anyone the liberty to rule over him.
His hold tightened before inevitably loosening and letting go, his eyes no longer focusing on the human being near him but the heat growing from something else, a mechanical heat that unnerved him but he stood his ground. Accepting and willing to these unnatural things only to get this over with, he grumbled bitterly as he struggled against himself to remain civil. Everything about this was causing his instincts to scream and his restless motions and twitches were evidence to that, he felt cornered and threatened, and there was only so long he could restrain himself of the hold his instincts had over him.

The experiment grumbled something at the other end of the room and for half a second Fabian allowed himself to be amused by his boldness. This one certainly likes to talk, the scientist thought. Thinks highly of himself too. Of course, what did he know? What did any of the experiments truly know about the wonders that were happening behind closed doors, about the transformations that were tacking placed days after day? Nothing. They knew nothing, too blinded by their own pain or discomfort. That would end. When all this was said and done, the experiments would realize the true miracle that had occurred.

Fabian ignored the profanities and the sound of movement that collected behind him, choosing instead to focus on the notebook in his hand and the numbers on the page. He had to get the setting exactly right. He needed to set it up the same way. He could experiment later. For now, he was aiming for success, again. The thought brought a swell in his chest. If he could fix what Dr. Dunbar had made, maybe then they would all understand just how amazing this machine was and would recognize Fabian and his brilliance after all. A funny thought, really, considering how absorbed they all were in themselves.

The scientist was aware of the movement behind him. He could hear the heavy footsteps of the experiment. He understood the curses, choosing to ignore the unintelligent language. He’d listen if the experiment had something useful to say. Fabian didn’t think much of the movement, a mistake on his part really, he should have considered that this one would be less willing than the other he had worked with. He only really noticed how close the experiment was when a cold hand grabbed the back of his coat and hissed in his ear.

For a moment everything fell still and Fabian was no longer in his lab but in an old bathroom, cold, dingy, smelling of young adolescent boys. He was pressed against the wall, three faces looming over him. Another blink and he was back in his lab, and experiment hissing in his ear. Strange… he hadn’t thought of high school in years. He shifted his attention to what was behind him. “Why would I underestimate you?” He asked after a moment’s pause. “I’m part of the team that created you. I know what you are capable of.”

The experiment released him, and Fabian rolled his shoulders and stood up straight. He ignored the rapid pace at which his heart beat – a natural reaction due to sudden contact, it would slow eventually – and turned around the face of the experiment. “I’m almost done setting this up, you can go sit on the pallet,” he pointed to the board the experiment would be laying on to be pushed inside the machine, “and wait there. We’ll begin shortly.”

He didn’t stop to see if the experiment followed his words. He just turned back to the machine and continued to double-check the commands he had typed in. Once he was sure everything was typed correctly and that the machine was one, he turned once more to the experiment and gestured for him to lie down. “You will be in there for a few minutes. You must lie perfectly still and wait. It will not be painful. It will not feel like much, but you cannot move. If that is to be a problem, I will find a solution.” Fabian stood by the side of the machine eyes focused not on the screen in front of him, but on the experiment. One of his hands held his clipboard and the other was hovering over the pad, waiting, itching, to type in the entry sequence. “Ready?”

With an uncertain hiss gurgled past his lips, Xavier peered defensively at the machine with a hesitance that was expected. Something about it made his skin crawl, making him writhe where he stood as he struggled with himself internally. Giving the scientist a second of his attention before moving it back on the machine, at least one of these scientists had some sense in them not to underestimate the people they tortured.
While he was still fairly wary, Xavier complied quietly. He was relatively easy to work with, so long as he was treated with some respect. Using the heat that radiated off the machine as a guide, Xavier shakily outstretched his hands and moved forward slowly, feeling for this pallet the scientist spoke of.

Upon a clatter of noise, Xavier emitted a sudden hiss and pained murmur of profanities as he rammed his knee into something he couldn't see. Nearly tripping in the process but catching the edge of the pallet before he lost his balance fully. Feeling the hair on his neck and arms stand on end at how close that unnatural heat was to him, he inched his gaze back to the scientist. There was a fear in his faded eyes, a similar uncertainty to another little experiment who underwent this same procedure not too long ago.
Face contorting in tight distaste, he didn't say anything when the other man rattled off the instructions but he certainly didn't feel any less anxious about this. Grumbling something under his breath, Xavier considered the scientist's last sentence for a good moment, only to snap his teeth with annoyance at the other's impatience, the light catching a glint of his underdeveloped fangs. "Just... hang on." he managed to croak out. "Simple things like this are harder on me than the normal." referring to physical exertion. After his body reacted and responded incorrectly to the injection, the simplest things proved tedious on him.

Closing his eyes as he hung his head, steadying his breathing while his knuckles turned white as they clung dearly to the side of the pallet, he was trembling. If it was out of fear or nausea or agitation, that was unclear. However, slowly but surely, he soon took a deep breath and weakly hoisted himself up onto the pallet and positioned himself as he was instructed. A shaky breath escapes him, staring at the heat the would no doubt surround him soon and a pang of dread clutched his heart. Swallowing hard the lump of poison-riddled saliva, he closed his eyes tightly for a moment before admitting in dry humor,"I would honestly rather die than do this, but I doubt any of you lot would allow it." He was just so tired of feeling ill and weak while bursts of unnatural strengths would occur, he would often recoil in pain.

"So," he began as his eyes found the scientist again,"since I can't have that simple privilege, I guess I'm as ready as I'll ever be." Xavier managed a toothy smirk, a hoarse chuckle turning into a wet mixture of a gagging coughing. What could this machine do that hasn't already been done to him? Maybe it'll make it worse, maybe it'll kill him; whatever it did, he doubted that he would be surprised at what it did. Maybe it would grant his wish of permanent sleep, although, he didn't think he could be so lucky.

Fabian stood back and watched the experiment struggle onto the pallet. He did not move from his stop by the machine’s control pad, and he certainly did not lend a hand to the unfortunate one. He knew better than that. So, he stood back and watched with an expressionless face. Peering behind gleaming glasses that probably made him look a little more mad or a little more intelligent than he really was.

He said nothing to rush the experiment. There was no reason to, and they weren’t on a tight schedule, yet. Besides, the slow movements and the momentary pauses allowed Fabian to really take in Dr. Dunbar’s work. It was much sloppier than Fabian thought. He had expected Dr. Dunbar to make errors, they were only human after all, but Fabian had no foreseen the lack of care. Whatever injection Dr. Dunbar had originally given the experiment had either not be completed or not thoroughly tested, perhaps both. While science was about making mistakes, this was just unfortunate and, in Fabian’s ever-humble opinion, most likely complete avoidable.

Fabian, for example, hadn’t just thrown and experiment into his machine immediately. No, it took months of building and testing and charts to label the mechanism ready for use. But perhaps something had occurred outside Dr. Dunbar’s control. Whatever the reason, the result was unfortunate, but Fabian had hoped that he could turn this around. This experiment wouldn’t be a waste, not yet.

The experiment spoke, and Fabian was brought back to the present. The scientist let out a short, annoyed, huff. “Privilege?” Fabian repeated his voice light as if on the verge of laughter. “In death? Absolutely not. Your death would be a waste of resources and time, both of which are in short supplies.”

He watched and waited for the experiment to lie back on the pallet then returned to his machine, typing in the log of commands, which he had written down in his lab notebook. Everything had to be the same; he had to make sure what happened the first time wasn’t a fluke. And if it had been a fluke, he wanted to see if he could turn it into a regular occurrence.

He cast one last glance to the experiment. “Do you best to lie still, this only takes seven minutes and I’d rather not do this again.”

With minimal reply, or a least not a very negative one, Fabian took one last look over the experiment and then the log, making sure everything was perfectly in place. After a pause to breathe in, then out, then in again, Fabian hit the button and watched the experiment disappear into the machine. The moment the experiment was out of sight, Fabian started his small mechanical timer, then picked up his notebook and began to jot down what he had done, how he had done it and what he had observed. Nothing would be left out. Nothing could be left out.

He glanced back at the timer: six minutes and ten seconds. He looked at the machine. The only sign it was on and working was the locational blink of light and the faint buzzing that could be heard throughout the room. It was most noticeable to the people passing by outside or the guards beyond the door but was so soft Fabian almost missed it. He wrote the observation down then looked up again. And so, the waiting truly began.

Not saying a word, oddly enough as he was the sort to want the last word, Xavier remained motionless. He refused to open his eyes and remind himself of what was around him, trying to trick his uptight instinct that he wasn't surrounded by some unholy machine. For the most part it worked, until the machine hissed and whirled to life. Enclosing him in a narrow space that quickly filled with hot, humid air that was almost suffocating.
Feeling his body tense up like a spring wind too tight, Xavier bit his lower lip nervously. His mind distracted him enough though, wondering what exactly this would accomplish. If it would at all.
Clearing his scratchy throat, for a moment there it felt like there was a relieving coolness that coated the inside of his mouth. Lulling him into a sense of peace that was more than welcoming to this ex-military.

But then it started... A small but nagging pressure pressed against the roof of his mouth, making his gums tingle as he gnashed his teeth together to try and relieve this sudden pressure. The mistakes made by Dr. Dunbar were slowly reversing themselves, becoming correct and whole.
Thinking nothing of it, he personally felt no different but the struggle to remain still only worsened when something else cropped up. The urge to scratch and claw at the itchy sensations that sprouted up along his face, arms and back was almost unbearable. But he was still, trembling dangerously perhaps but he didn't move because he didn't want to do this again.

The minutes seemed to crawl by like years, tormenting the snake as he restrained from squirming.
'For the love of-- hurry up!' he sneered, wanting to scream and thrash about. Eyes open wide for awhile now to stare at the radiating heat around him, uncomfortable and stricken with the strong desire to attack that heat. Much to his relief, the machine emitted another hiss and hummed, a cool darkness breaking through as it finally began to open.

Jolting upright when the humming stopped, Xavier growled in discomfort, scratching furiously at his shoulder blades and cheeks, unknowing of the patches of scales that had formed randomly throughout his body.
"I swear, if I have to do that again--" not even finishing his sentence, Xavier made his frustration very clear. Feeling itchy all over, he felt like he may scratch all his skin off but at least the pressure in his mouth had lessened. Swearing out loud, fed up really, Xavier's arched his spine, twisting his body and arms in a way that was humanly impossible, just to reach the one spot on the back that was always hard to reach. His eyes eventually found the scientist, unsure if he should be angry or not at him but at the moment, he just wished all this itching would stop.

The long minutes the experiment was feeling felt short to Fabian. He kept his eyes trained on command pad, waiting, should anything go wrong. The machine rattled and hissed softly, but other than that the room was silent. Fabian took the time to bask in the peace of the room now that the snappy experiment was gone and out of hearing for the time being. It allowed Fabian to focus all his attention on the notepad in his hand as opposed to worrying about what the snake was going to say or do. The other experiment had been so much easier to work with, Fabian could almost say that he missed her.

The machine came to a quick stop. It opened up and the pallet with the snake slid out and came to a stop before Fabian. The experiment sat up suddenly, breathing deeply and scratching at his skin. Fabian made sure to write down the immediate observations: the experiment seemed out of it, itchy or nervous maybe, and nothing physical had changed, yet. Before Fabian could speak, the experiment twisted and thrashed back and forth on the pallet with a movement that should have been impossible for the human spine.

For a second, Fabian just stared trying to make sense of the movement. After a moment he jotted down the observation. Perhaps changes were taking place? Only time would tell at this point. Once the thrashing was done the experiment met Fabian’s calm gaze. Fabian couldn’t tell if it was supposed to be a threat or not, but the experiment didn’t look angry, more annoyed than anything else. He would get over it, eventually.

Fabian turned his attention to the notepad on his clipboard and flipped to a new page. “What are you feeling?” Fabian asked, while the experiment watched him. He didn’t flinch under the gaze. “Any new sensations? Any sense better or sharper than what you remember?” Fabian gave the experiment a quick look over. Still no physical changes, at least none that Fabian could see. “If you feel that you are going to be sick, please let me know, I would rather not clean up after you.”

He moved back to the machine and flipped it off. After one used it would need to recharge and repower, lest it be overrun and die on him. It had taken forever to design this thing, he’d rather not have to remake it. Not yet, at the very least.

Turning to look at the experiment again, Fabian frowned when nothing else had changed, then frowned again when he took note of his own impatient. He couldn’t recall how long it had taken for the other one to become aware of her own changes, but it hadn’t been instantly, and, in fact, they had found new improvements a few days later. Fabian would have to be patient when it came to the results, something that he was very good at.

Hissing dangerously, Xavier's irritated state only appeared to get worse. "Oh, I'm just peachy." his lips twitched, face contorting into one of disgusted annoyance. "Well, aside from the obvious sensation that feels like my whole body is on fire and burning from this dreadful itching, I feel I'm doing just swell!" The venom in his sarcastic words was so thick, it was palpable. Quite literally. Each time his lips pulled back into a snarl, long fangs tipped with toxic liquid flexed forward.
Which before, they weren't able to do as the venom glands weren't properly connected to the fangs and instead secreted through his saliva glands causing the main problem to his throat and stomach pains. Alongside that, they were also deformed where they were smaller and lacked the injection point at the tip of the fangs, incapable and beyond fixing in the hands of his primary scientist. Least before the machine, they were.

Slowly but surely the burning sensation began to lessen at a snail's pace but at least it was. Finding relief in that, Xavier gave an agitated sigh and shuddered, the continuous scratching made his skin tingle and sensitive to the touch. "Well, aside from that, I don't feel much different nor do I see what it is you were expecting," he said dryly, a bit collected than before. Eyes honed in on the other man, fearless was his gaze, Xavier grumbled swears and shifted his body to stand up with more ease than the last experiment.
Smoothing out his shirt, he grunted upon noticing something and faltered. A rigid chill overcame his body, distracting him from his discomfort as he slowly straightened up, looking befuddled at his hands.
It was an odd feeling he felt and an even odder sight to behold. The familiar red and orange heat he saw in his hands, it was slowly dwindling away before his very eyes. It wouldn't be such an odd sight as his body flopped between warm and cold-blooded quite frequently but never to this extent.
Watching as the warm light vanished from his fingertips, a question occurred to his mind.

Had this machine made him fully cold-blooded?

Blinking, he disregarded the thought as fantasy as he watched a little longer but that warmth never returned, unnerving him to a degree. He wasn't sure what to think of this. Swallowing hard the clot of dread that had formed in his throat, trying to collect and piece together what had made itself aware to him only to be pointed to something else he just noticed. "My throat... what did you do?" his voice was caught up but clearer than before, teetering between fearful uncertainty to a relief of finally not being in pain.
His eyes narrowed suspiciously, a hand subconsciously reaching to his shoulder, fingers slipping under his sleeve to put his attention on an itch there instead of all this absurdity but the surprises didn't stop coming.
Stiffening up, the hair on the back of his neck stood up on end, for his fingers felt something unnatural. Sightless, slitted pupils scanned over to his shoulder as if he could actually see what was there. Smooth but toughly packed scales made up a big patch along his shoulders and was still spreading at a rapid, almost visible pace.

The corner of his lip twitched, fairly fed-up with all this as he glared at the other with an accusing expression, a low string of curses left him before he genuinely questioned in a louder voice,"What is this sorcery?" The changes before weren't all bad, coming slow and painful and expected of sloppily applied serum, but this... whatever this machine did was otherworldly and the fact Xavier couldn't understand it didn't sit well with him or his serpent-like instincts.
