Long ago, a villainous group by the name of CIPHER preformed horrible experiments on Pokémon- twisting their natures and personalities, turning them into fighting machines.
They had created the Shadow Pokémon.
A hero- armed with a snag machine- reclaimed the Shadow Pokémon and returned them to their former selves, and CIPHER vanished.
Before CIPHER, another team had tried and failed- and from this another Snag Machine was born.
These two Snag Machines were lost to time- but not for long.
And with CIPHER on the verge of ruling the world, they'll need them.

Melody is a rather optimistic and bubbly young lady. She seemingly has endless cheer to her. She is very outgoing and sweet most of the time, rarely getting angry. Melody tends to have a rather childish side to her and is more than willing to make friends. Melody loves her pokemon and has a very close bond to all of them. Crowe and Caila were her first pokemon, and so share the strongest connection. Melody is always willing to lend a helping hand or cheer a friend on. Frankly, there is no such thing as an enemy to Mel. She also tends to like sweet things, so cake or cookies are a hot deal to her. Mel is also an avid battler though and knows a lot about pokemon. Often she is underestimated by her size and personality as weak. Although she soon proves a point after sweeping an opponent's team with just a couple of her pokemon.

Melody is at heart a Hoenn girl. That's where she was born to a nice middle-class family as the only child. At a young age she met her best friend, Ren. She was often seen with him playing a game, eating, or napping. She was like a safety blanket for the boy. Over time Mel and Ren grew, and Mel moved to a new region. Upon that she had invited Ren after moving, getting an agreement. There Ren and her explored together, having some crazy adventures. Although Ren eventually fell for a girl, and Mel went her own path with a young boy just a year older than her. After that, at sixteen she gave birth to twins. Melody had a family. As the twins grew their father still took his own journey. Since then Mel had raised her kids. Although she is now engaged to the father of her twins. She eventually left the region for a vacation, knowing nothing of the adventure she would have.

Zero is... Complicated. She is prone to violence and never backs down from a fight- even in situations that would benefit her to do so. She loves a good fist fight, but is a bit hesitant when it comes to Pokémon battles. While she will battle it out for any reason, she genuinely does care for her Pokémon and would never put them in harms way. She's not very social- she doesn't particularly like people, and unknown Pokémon are always a danger- but she likes to talk to her Pokémon, even if they can't exactly talk back.
Even so, she's still a mercenary. She tends not to think about the people and Pokémon she's killed or captured- from what she's learned, there's no point in reflection.
History -
Zero is a born and bred street rat- her parents probably less than reputable people, and clearly not in want of a child.
She was abandoned on the doorstep of an orphanage within hours of birth.
The orphanage she was taken into was not exactly kind to its occupants- especially a young Zero, who hadn't learned how to fight back yet. However, one of the other children had taken Zero under their wing- taught her to read and write, how best to stay out of trouble, how to hide, even given Zero her name. And most importantly, how to fight. Zero proved an incredibly fast learner, and had the stubborn personality to fight- practicing for hours on end if she could. When she was seven, and had gathered enough money from mostly illicit activities and could reasonably defend herself, she ran and never looked back.
She managed to make it a week before her resources ran dry, and so she went looking for jobs.
She was actually hired by someone her age- to steal a Pokémon card. It wasn't even hard- she got it with no trouble and got paid about two Pokedollars.
But it set her on her path.
The heists became more elaborate, the stakes and money climbing higher and higher. She was never famous- no, that would never do for a mercenary- but her name was a whisper on the underground circuit, a rumor occasionally stirring the air.
And it was enough.
By the time she was twelve- and could reasonably pass as being able to handle a Pokémon- she stole two Eevees from a Pokémon research lab. A male and a female- whom, in all honesty, did not like her at all at first. But they grew to be friends in time, with a few months of travelling and a few death defying missions, she had her Espeon and Umbreon.
She doesn't battle a lot, so they're relatively weak in battle, but they help her pull off heists no other Pokémon could.

Zero has to admit, she loves her job.
Umbreon and Espeon run on either side of her as they flee the collapsing hideout- if you could call the old warehouse a hideout- fleeing gang members and Pokémon are everywhere; she's easily lost in the chaos.
The more collected members are out for her blood, but it's no use. She's in the forest and gone before they can fire a shot- her two loyal eeveelutions hard on her heels.
She only stops when she's a good bit away and perfectly concealed in the forest- when she can no longer hear the minor gang's members rushing around and just barely see the smoke.
She untangles her cloak- a gaudy thing, but useful- from around her prize, smiling a bit more than she should.
One of the Snag Machines lays in her grasp- the first one ever made, all hard black but instead of lined with red, blue. It suits her- matches her clothing in every way, so without further ado she slips it on and locks it in place- the thing hums slightly as it activates, but quiets in a few moments. Zero can't quite tell if it's actually on, but decides to keep moving forward anyways- there would be time for technicalities later.
Right now she just had to lay low for a while.

Leon's day had gone as normal as usual, he supposed. Oddly so, for such a big day.
Today was the day he would get his first Pokémon and start out on his journey.
He'd triple checked his supplies- everything was there and ready to go, yet he almost stopped himself at the door.
He was rather old to be starting out on his first journey, and of course journey's were dangerous. But this had been his dream for far too long now- no time for second guessing himself.
Besides, he'd made a promise.
Shouldering his backpack, he walks out the door and prepares to change his life.

Melody was watching the news that day and saw an old building in the desert had gone down. Odd, she figured she would investigate. "Let's go, Crowe!" She called. Soon enough her umbreon came bounding over and the two headed out the door together. She called out her charizard, Hickory, and hopping on his back the charizard surged into the air. Mel had him fly onward from her vacation home. Yes, she got herself a vacation home. Mel took a route over a nearby forest, although as Crowe growled down below she had Hickory descend. As soon as the charizard landed she recalled him, letting out Crowe's mate Caila in his place. The espeon shook out her fur. As soon as Crowe was set though he ran off, Caila right behind him upon notice of it. The two pokemon swiftly ran through the dense forest, their muscles rippling underneath their pelts as they charged on. Crowe's tail raised in intent alarm.
Crowe could smell them. The three strangers that were here. He then saw them come into view. He pulled to a halt a few lengths away with Caila at his side. There was also an umbreon and espeon pair. Crowe's fur rose along his spine, a low warning growl coming from him. These ones seemed kinda shady. Caila took que from Crowe, arching her spine, her tail bristling. With ears flat against her skull she hissed. Mel soon arrived behind them. "Crowe! Caila! What is going on?" She panted, out of breath. Then she noticed the strangers.

Chase walked out from the laboratory with his newly claimed snubull. The pokemon there even had custom movesets. This one knew Crunch and all the "Fang" moves. He was a fun-loving pup and was a match made for heaven to Chase. He let the snubull out. "Hey!" He chuckled as the pup jumped all over him. He pet him to give the pup what he pleased. "I think I will call you Riley. Sound good?" The snubull nodded eagerly. Chase smiled and headed down the path. Although it turned to an unsure expression when he noticed somebody else. His eyes tried to avoid the stranger.

Zero looks up upon Melody's arrival- a bit surprised, but not overly so. The new arrival was older than her, though had the same set of Pokémon- but they were certainly stronger than her two, that much was clear by a glance, so she wasn't going to pick a fight with this one. They weren't the police, that was for sure- surely the explosion couldn't be on television already? She doesn't say anything, but stands straighter from where she was leaning against the tree to face Melody more properly- no point in hiding her face now, she supposed- but tucks her left arm- where she Snag Machine still is- beneath her cloak so it couldn't be seen. She stares at Melody- waiting for her to make a move first.

Leon sees another man walking out of the laboratory doors with a Snubbull- their first Pokémon too, he guessed.
He doesn't really make eye contact- no real reason too- so he pushes through the doors and walks in to get his first Pokémon.
*A CONVERSATION LATER*
Leon swings out the door, a young Litleo bouncing around his feet. It was a bit ironic, he supposed- a lion for Leo- but he was happy to have the little guy along.
He was thrilled it was a fire type- he figured he'd end up specializing in those, but he'd need to see how his time with this little one went before thinking to hard about it. "What should I call you, little guy? How's about Blaze?"
The little fire Pokémon jumps around in excitement, seemingly agreeing and anxious to battle.
He thinks back to the other person he saw leaving, hoping maybe they could battle since they were on even ground. *HINT HINT*

Mel looked to the person who came out from behind the tree. Interesting, but she nodded politely nonetheless. "Hello there! I'm melody, my umbreon and espeon are Crowe and Caila." She introduced herself kindly. With a smiled she was able to give a vibe that settled Crowe and Caila down. The espeon was far more wary of the others though. Caila always had been more assertive and upfront, where Crowe was more polite and less quick to judge. He sat and eventually nodded curtly to the two other eeveelutions before them. Although Caila still kept her ears back and eyes narrowed suspiciously. Her tail flicked in anticipation.
Mel stood for a moment before speaking again. "So, what are you doing out here? Do you need some help? I heard a building fell out, and came to check. Turns out there were some rather shady people using it. Although I don't know too much. I am just here on vacation from another region where I live." She said with a friendly, and trusting, smile to the girl. Although Mel was five feet and three inches tall, she was actually twenty-three years old. She was just never the tallest of girls.

Chase sighed as heheaded down the road with Riley by his side. Although the snubbull would scamper off at times to chase something. Chase still liked the pup, he was very high-strung though. That would need to be settled eventually. Luckily Chase was quite the expert in the canine behavior path. He would settle Riley out after a while. For now it was just taking some time to bond with each other, and maybe train against other pokemon.

She hesitates for just a moment, but says, "I'm Zero. And these are my friends, Umbreon and Espeon." She gestures to the two Pokémon with her left, careful to keep the machine hidden. "I actually came because I heard about that as well. Thinking now, it was probably a bad idea. Who knows what kinds of people could be out here?" She says, not unkindly, but pointed. She prefers to keep civilians out of her business- it always leads to trouble.

Melody nodded in understanding to the girl. "Nice to meet you, Zero." She said. She stood there waiting for something interesting. Then Crowe walked over to sniff tentatively at the girl and what she seemed to be hiding. He sat and looking up to Zero questioningly. His expression seemed to ask what she was keeping hidden. Her fur along his spine starting to rise in suspicion. Mel looked over, noticing Crowe's actions. "So, are you hiding something? You don't need to worry, I won't tell anyone. I'm just here on vacation anyways." She told Zero honestly.

Zero starts to respond, but the steady whoomph of helicopter blades as a dark shape in the sky crept closer at an alarming rate cuts her off. The unmarked black helicopter doesn't stop until it was practically on top of them- powerful blades shoving the air downward with enough force to knock over a few small trees. Any remaining wild Pokémon in the area flee as two ladders descend, four oddly-clad figures swiftly climbing down and standing between the two trainers.
They were wearing sharp white, armor-like uniforms that covered basically everything except for the mouth- an odd red scarf-like object standing out sharply against their whiteness.
They don't hesitate- all four of them whip out their Pokeballs and release a Pokémon each- two Poocheyena and two Purrloins. They weren't particularly strong- about level 25, but their cockiness put Zero on edge.
"Hand over your Pokémon to CIPHER and no one gets hurt!" One of them yells- and Zero files the name away for further research, but the first thing that comes to mind is 'Shadow Pokemon' and Damnit.
Umbreon and Espeon drop into fighting positions and Zero flips up her hood, still hiding the Snag Machine and covering her face- prepared to fight and waiting for the grunts to make the first move.

Blaze meows his approval and blasts in front of Leon- ready to fight.
He smiles at his Pokémon's eagerness, and seeing that he was going to make the first move, swiftly calls, "Alright, Blaze! Use Fire Fang!" Snubbull was usually a physical attacker- this would give him a chance to see some of its moves, and judge its speed for himself and make a better plan.
