On the Run from the ICIB

In the modern twenty-first century, there is no room for creatures of myth and legend. These stories are now nothing more than fiction to entertain active human imaginations. That is what the population now believes. Unbeknownst to the average human, creatures of myth walk among them, disguised as humans themselves. Most will never know of this mystery, but there is one organization dedicated to unlocking the secrets of these creatures. The International Cryptid Investigation Bureau, or ICIB, is a secret international organization made up of government officials from around the world, gathered together for the purpose of capturing and studying these creatures in the hopes of either eliminating them, or using them to further national security efforts. They say that anyone who gets captured is never seen again...

Eon and Smith

Postby Coyote » Mon Jun 19, 2017 2:25 pm

Name: Eon
Gender: Agender
Age: Unknown
Species: Gryphon
Reference by ShedoNayami

▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪
Personality

In a word, Eon is serious. Eon instantly makes the impression of someone who will not be laughing or joking through everyday conversation. Sure, Eon smiles every now and then, but for the most part, Eon is so used to both survival and solitude that fun social interactions seem to have become somewhat of a lost art. Eon is very clever and equally wise, which is not surprising of a being who has lived so long. It is easy for Eon to get focused on the practical and might not always be the best company or the most emotionally sensitive. Fortunately, Eon is also very quiet and tends not to speak unless spoken to or there is something particularly important to communicate.
Eon might not be the most sentimental type, but Eon can and does bond closely with others. In fact, Eon could likely benefit from a friendship that would allow for opportunities to learn how to have fun again. Any bonds Eon does make are rewarded with loyalty, and Eon will do anything possible to help out a friend in need. Eon is not one to abandon a friend by any means, but Eon is also smart enough to know a lost cause when it appears and is not one for needless sacrifice.

As a Gryphon

In Eon's natural form, this gryphon stands around three and a half feet
high at the shoulder, which is roughly the size of an adult lion. Rich,
golden-tan feathers on Eon's avian head turn to a short coat of fur along
Eon's torso. This aforementioned head is clearly reminiscent of an eagle's
and sports a yellow, black-tipped beak that is both sturdy and sharp.
Bright golden eyes with oval pupils peer out of Eon's skull, which is
topped by a fluffy pair of pointed ears that, while keen, are largely
immobile. The feathers are longest and fluffiest around Eon's neck and
chest, but they do continue down to just past Eon's elbows, where they
stop fairly abruptly to reveal dark grey, scaly talons that are a little
more human-like than those of a traditional bird. Eon's dexterous
forelimbs can manipulate objects nearly as well as a human can, but
are also strong enough to resist damage when used in combat. Giant
eagle wings sprout from Eon's shoulders. They are wide and rounded
enough to support impressive areal agility. Everything from the ribs
and back resembles a lion's anatomy, with the biggest difference being
in the tail. This tail is longer and thicker than that of a lion, which gives
it enough strength to hold true as a rudder while in flight. The tail is
tipped not with a tuft of fur, but a fan of feathers that are used to help
    Eon maneuver during flight.
As far as magical ability goes, Eon's main asset is a remarkable
durability. At full speed during a dive out of the air, Eon has been known
to smash through just about any material. Even without momentum, it
takes quite a lot of force to do any real damage to Eon. Eon is also
keenly attuned with the natural balance of the world and has an almost
telepathic ability to sense danger and locate just about anything or
anyone. While neither of these abilities are flashy, they have proved
terribly useful. After all, Eon has never once been captured.
As a Human

At first glance, Eon makes for a rather
unassuming human. Eon takes on the
appearance of a slender teenager of
ambiguous gender, which can lead to some
confusion when others try to decide how to
refer to Eon. Being thin and moderately short,
at five feet and four inches, Eon is easily
underestimated in the area of physical
strength, but has proved surprisingly capable
in a pinch. Straight, chestnut brown hair
sprouts from Eon's head and is typically kept
short and a little messy. It always seems to
be blowing into Eon's yellow-hazel eyes,
which are reminiscent of the vivid gold of
Eon's true form. The skin covering Eon's body
is a light, natural tan, and Eon covers this
skin with casual or athletic wear that is
comfortable and easy to move in. When
given a choice, Eon will dress in articles of
the correct size and in complimentary
colors. Eon is usually seen in a t-shirt or
hoodie combined with jeans, athletic shorts,
    or sweat pants.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

History

For the most part, Eon's history is shrouded in mystery. Even though Eon's human form is that of a teen, Eon is the sort of person who has an "old soul". Eon might well have been alive for centuries prior. What one can gather of Eon is that this gryphon is solely lacking in connections and does not seem to have any friends or family to call upon in times of need. Eon also has a strong preference to remain a gryphon when possible, as opposed to disguised as a human. It is likely that much of Eon's past has consisted of a peaceful life in the wild, and Eon will confirm this with the occasional comment about wilderness survival, which is a topic Eon is very familiar with. Eon appears to be very aware of the ICIB, and has likely survived several close calls. However, Eon is has never once actually been captured and does not plan to let that change.

Name: Smith
Gender: Male
Age: 27 Years
Species: Unicorn

▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒
x▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄
Personality

Smith is a very social person who is unafraid to strike up a conversation with anyone nearby, even if that person is a total stranger. He comes off as cheerful and charming most of the time, and has a great fondness for flirting. Smith will try out pickup lines on men and women alike, but never seems to be entirely serious about his advances, considering he treats almost everyone in an identical fashion. Speaking of fashion, looking good is very important to Smith. He knows that he feels best when he likes how he looks. Some might consider that vain, and Smith himself might admit that he occasionally has issues with vanity, but for the most part this preference is harmless.
While Smith might come off as someone who makes light of serious situations and is more concerned with his hair and clothes than the people around him, Smith is actually surprisingly willing to make sacrifices for others. As a social person, he does genuinely care about others around him and will not hesitate to help someone in need. While he might complain about a soiled outfit, he would still jump into the mud to pull someone else out of it. Unfortunately, he rarely gets a chance to show this side of him, leading most to underestimate his value as a friend.

As a Unicorn

Smith greatly resembles Friesian stallion. He is tall, powerful,
and an elegant ebony black with deep chocolate eyes. Each
hoof is crowned by fluffy fur that flows in the wind with every
step. One main difference between Smith and an everyday
horse lies in his tail. Smith has a long, thin, whip-like tail that
is tipped with a thick brush of flowing, black hair that
matches his mane. His horn is the second distinctly unicornian
part of his anatomy. There is a white star marking in the
center of his forehead, from which erupts his magical horn.
This horn is smooth and twisted, like the horn of a kudu.
When he touches this horn to an open wound, Smith is able to
heal it within minutes. He cannot do anything to help wounds
that have already healed, however. He can close a deep gash
like it never happened, but can do nothing to bring back an
amputated limb years after it was lost. If Smith's horn were
ground up into powder and drank, its true healing magic
would be unlocked. Old injuries would instantly regenerate.
Any illness would be cured in seconds. Ground unicorn horn is
even said to be able to bring the dead back to life. Even
while it is still attached to him, Smith can use his horn to
purify even the most toxic water or air. He, himself, is
immune to poison of any kind and heals extraordinarily
quickly. However, aside from sporting a sharp horn for
impaling opponents, this unicorn is no more suited for combat
than an ordinary horse would be.
As a Human

Standing at five feet and eleven inches tall, Smith is never
remembered for his height, which is neither remarkably
tall nor particularly short. Instead, he tends to be
remembered for his tasteful fashion sense and fondness
for creative flair. While never flashy enough to come
off as gaudy, Smith is certainly someone not soon
forgotten. He walks with a certain self-assured
confidence. Smith makes a point to keep his dark
facial hair well-groomed into a neat mustache and
goatee that, when combined with his straight, shoulder-
length hair, leaves an impression or roguish elegance.
This hair is almost exclusively kept keenly slicked back
and tied off with a deep blue cobalt ribbon. Smith's
pale skin contrasts sharply with his dark locks, and it is
apparent that he does not spend much time under the
sun doing honest labor. He has managed to keep a trim
physique, but that is more out of vanity than utility.
While arguably quite handsome, he is not particularly
athletic. Where possible, Smith will opt for semi-formal
wear and has a specific fondness for vests. He is likely
to complain if forced to forego a nice outfit or neglect
his hygiene. Looking his best is important to him, but
even a bad hair day cannot extinguish the charming
twinkle in his chocolate brown eyes.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

History

Smith comes from a long line of unicorns that have stayed in hiding with moderate success. His earliest memories were of living in a run-down old apartment building with his mother. What little money they had to spare was used to take him on frequent trips to the countryside where she would show him how to be a unicorn, so that he would not get lost in the realm of humanity and lose his true self. He never had a real name as a child, since his mother kept his existence a secret. She taught him from home, so he received a high school-level education. Smith was always called pet names, like "son", "dear", and "little one". He was allowed to choose a name for himself on his eighteenth birthday as a part of the traditional unicorn rite of passage, and "Smith" just seemed right. Smith has no last name, because he never needed one.
After that eighteenth birthday, Smith's mother gave him a small amount of money and wished him luck in the world. She thought the best way to keep him hidden and safe was to stay apart from one another. Smith's mother had known for a long time that unicorns had been disappearing. She told him a story of how government officials stormed into her sister's home and took her away from her husband to never be seen again. Thought her brother-in-law was able to warn her and she escaped in time, Smith's mother vowed to keep her family safe, and she passed that story along in the hopes that her only son would stay safe as well.
Smith has done fairly well for himself. He found work as a freelance artist, designing clothing and selling his designs to different companies for a profit. He earns enough to keep a nice wardrobe or clothing and decent little condominium all to himself. Lately, he has started doubting that anyone will come to take him away for being a unicorn, since he has so successfully hidden that side of him. In fact, he is severely out of touch with his true form and lives almost entirely as a human. However, it is only a matter of time before he is discovered.

Eyes are Celadon (Pale Green) heart shaped face. Almond styled eyes (round) She should have a somewhat narrow nose, and slightly thinned lips. (Lots of pursing when stressed) she is far from having sun kissed skin, but she isn't pale either. Clothing Wise Gem is always well dressed. A more 'classy' character. She could be in a red dress, and possibly high heels. Or perhaps ladies Dress pants and a flattering blouse, heels/flats.

He hasn't found his style yet in clothing and currently wears a thin white shirt and a pear of sweat pants. One foot clad in a simple house shoe, the other barefoot, his other shoe being lost in his escape.
Personality: 26 is rather shy and timid. Being raised in a lab, he's curious, but also very cautious and wary.

Gryphon
Unknown Age

On the Sidewalk, Downtown

It had been a long day of walking, and Eon resented every second of it. If only there were no humans around to watch the skies, Eon could have gotten through the city ages ago. Flight was a much more efficient mode of transportation, but being a gryphon had some downsides. One of those was being so darn noticeable.
Eon had made a point to hunt in the woods in the outskirts of the city last night, but the clawing emptiness of hunger had already set in. Judging by the sheer size of this particular city, Eon anticipated going largely without food for the next day or two. Sure, life might be easier if Eon would commit to living as a human and was able to earn money from a job, but Eon was simply far too in love with being a gryphon to ever abandon that true self for a life of relative ease. Besides, it was easier to stay one step ahead of those black helicopters if Eon stayed on the move.
Eon walked with a lowered head and hands shoved into the pockets of a pair of green camouflage-patterned shorts. A gentle breeze would occasionally blow messy brown bangs into Eon's hazel eyes, prompting a flick of the head to preserve a clear line of vision. Minutes of silence turned to hours as Eon walked, ignoring the people that passed by. Eon only had the patience for single-minded focus on the task at hand: getting through this blasted city. That is, until something else distracted the gryphon in disguise. It came as the hint of a feeling at first, but there was no mistaking it. This city was not so innocent as it seemed. There were others here, and Eon started to wonder if perhaps it was a good idea to try to find them.

Such a lovely day was not one that Smith wished to waste. He breathed in a large lungful of fresh air and looked up from his sketchbook to gaze around the park. Little rays of sun slipped through the protective leaves of the tree above him. The park was full of trees, as well as several winding paths and weather-worn benches, upon one of which Smith, himself, was sitting. There was no playground here, so the park tended to be quiet enough for Smith to concentrate on his drawings without having playful children distract him.
Smith took a moment to set down his pencil and stretch his fingers before going back to the evening gown he was working on. He added a fold here and a pattern there, experimenting with different ideas and examining how the worked together on paper. There was a lot of need for erasing as well, but Smith never minded. Every idea he needed to let go of just became more fuel for future designs.

Gem was on her usual stroll about the city, her eyes roamed over one face to the next. Each scent sort of blended together, and they were all so bland to her. She found nothing exciting, or even remotely interesting about the human race, yet she had to parade around as one for her own safety. It wasn’t all terrible, of course. Gem liked the fashion side of things and all the things that glittered, especially the things that glittered. It was one of the reasons she had chosen to stay. Gem lifted her head on a gentle breeze as she walked, only to pause and change direction, eyes curious until she spotted the source of the peculiar scent. This one wasn’t a bland human, far from it. She followed from a distance at first, then came closer little by little as the minutes turned to hours, and when they finally seemed aware that they weren’t the only creature around she stepped up next to their elbow. “You stick out like a sore thumb,” came her muttered words, and pale green eyes peered into the strangers face if only for a brief moment when another, more natural scent came their way. Rain?

~

26 wandered from one place to the next, drenched from head to foot , despite the clear weather that was forecasted. Storm clouds seemed to appear out of nowhere and down poured where ever he happened to be. This time he was in the park and had caught the attention of someone’s canine friend, who seemed overly rambunctious and anxious to be pet by anyone that passed by. Unaware of such needs, the little dog spooked him to say the least, and he scrambled away only to find himself falling. With one foot clad in a house shoe, the other bare, he tripped over his own shoe in his attempt to flee so instead of running he found himself cowering behind a weather worn bench with his arms folded over his head. One storm cloud had already burst and abused the area with cold rain, dissipated, only for another to come threatening the same treatment. Patches of red hair was plastered against his head and neck, some of it sticking out at odd angles giving him a sort of wild look, which was only strengthened by the fear in his eyes. If people weren’t running from the threat of another down pour, they were staring, pointing, and muttering.

A voice caught Eon's attention, and a glance to the side revealed the speaker had striking pale green eyes. Gut instinct combined with guesswork made it easy for Eon to tell what sort of creature had approached. Whatever this stranger was, it had to be something with a keen sense of smell.
Before Eon could respond, a fat rain drop fell onto the gryphon's flat, human face. That was just as well. As the rain started falling more heavily, the streets quickly cleared of people. It was safe to talk openly, and a convenient shop awning provided a relatively dry place to do so.
"Everything sticks out to dragons, doesn't it?", Eon retorted with the slightest hint of smug satisfaction at having guessed correctly.
After that, Eon was more serious. The few dragons Eon had known were both difficult and dangerous. The last thing Eon wanted was some sort of scrap over territory. Then again, a dragon with the sense to disguise themselves likely also knew better than to cause a scene. Maybe this dragon could be reasoned with.
"It's been a long time since I've met one of your kind. I'm just passing through, not looking for trouble."

"Drat! Of all the rotten timing..."
Smith slammed his sketchbook shut to protect his precious drawings from water damage as a sudden cloudburst soaked the park. He stood hastily and stowed the sketchbook the briefcase he had brought to the park. It made for a handy location to store art utensils.
Once his sketchbook was safe from the rain, Smith grasped his briefcase and was about to beat a hasty retreat when the rain stopped as suddenly as it had started. Confused at the odd weather, he looked up at the sky, where darkening rainclouds threatened to begin pouring again at any moment. The odd occurrences did not end there, however.
A soft thump just behind the bench where he had been sitting moments before alerted Smith to the presence of what appeared to be a terribly shaken young man who was soaking wet from the rain.
    "What the...?
It did not take an expert to see that whoever this was, they were in need of help and not getting any sympathy. Smith even spotted a couple who were pointing at the poor man and whispering things between them. Not one to ignore someone having a hard time, Smith raised his voice just enough so that anyone nearby could overhear.
"There you are, Harvey! Whatever has happened to you?"
Smith stepped around the bench and extended a hand to help the stranger up, offering a reassuring smile and a wink that would suggest to go along with the act. If they pretended to know each other, it would save this poor chap some of the embarrassment of suffering some type of episode in public.
"Come on. Let's go home and get you dried off."

"Depends if it's of interest," It was as simple as that really, if it didn't interest her then whatever it was just blended in with everything else. Gem wasn't completely surprised by the down pour of rain as she had scented it on the air, but it was out of place. Taking cover under the awning, Gem crossed her arms and looked over the gryphon again. "Not looking for trouble...But that takes away all the fun." There was a ghost of a smile playing on her lips and a small challenge in her eyes, that didn't mean she couldn't be reasonable, however she was going to test those boundaries.

~

26 jumped at the voice at first and looked up from beneath his arms. At first he was confused to see a stranger extending his hand to help, but even more so to hear his words directed at him, neither of which stopped him from reaching out. He didn't know who Harvey was or where home might be, but this stranger was the first to offer him a kindness. Taking the offered hand, he stood with a cautionary glance around the area, ducked his head against staring peers, and turned to follow wherever this fellow might lead. His fear of being returned to the lab from which he came, kept him trailing a step or two behind.

Judging from this stranger's response, Eon could already tell that this encounter would not be over quickly, but at least the dragon did not seem immediately dangerous. This situation called for tact.
"There's no reason why we can't have fun and be civil at the same time.", Eon responded, mustering up the energy to play along. "My name is Eon. I'm a gryphon. And you are...?"
With a dash of luck, Eon could turn that challenge dancing in the dragon's eyes into something a little more friendly. Really, Eon wanted to be left alone to continue traveling. Being tired had a way of sapping one's patience, after all. Then again, meeting a fellow creature was a rare occurrence. Maybe it would be better to see what information Eon could get out of this stranger. Was she even aware of those that hunted their kind? This could be interesting.

Smith led the stranger away from the unwanted attention he had attracted, heading towards the edge of the park. Everything happened so quickly back there that only now did have the time to think his plan through. Sure, this guy was no longer distressed and unattended, but Smith could not just bring home someone strange, either. It would be better to figure out where this guy belonged and who was responsible for him, and then get them reunited.
Towards the edge of the park, Smith stopped walking and turned to face his new companion. It was time to get some answers. First, Smith took a moment to look over this strange young man. He was quite tall and thin, dressed plainly, and missing a shoe. It seemed obvious that this guy was suffering from some level of neglect. Was he homeless, perhaps? Maybe he had some type of mental health condition and had gotten lost from his caretakers. Smith hoped it was the latter. If this guy was homeless, Smith might have gotten himself into more than he bargained for.
"Alright. Let's see if we can't figure out where you belong. Did you come to the park with somebody? Oh, my name's Smith, by the way. Yours probably isn't Harvey, but I had to call you something, didn't I?"
Smith chuckled a little to himself as he reflected over the impromptu acting of moments before. He was pleased with himself over his own cleverness.

Re: Gem and Coyote 1x1

"Well if we must be civil, I suppose..." Gem was joking, of course, for the most part. She knew better than to stir up too much trouble in a city filled with humans. "Gem. Dragon as you guessed, and I take it that you're just passing through. Or trying to." She nearly smiled again with her own amusement, in part of having delayed the gryphon.

26 shook his head in response and hunched his shoulders as if he was trying to make himself smaller, which was rather difficult, being as tall as he was. Once they had slowed to stop 26 started looking around again, ready to make another run if the situation called for it, his eyes filled with renewed fear of being sent back to ICIB. Clouds gathered above them turning darker by the moment and 26 tried to find his voice enough in order to speak, but what words? "26..." He mumbled first, giving the only name he could remember being called. "26."

Eon
Agender
Gryphon
Unknown Age
Human Form
With Gem
Under an Awning, Downtown

Eon began to feel most relaxed upon seeing that Gem's reactions bordered more on teasing than malice. Perhaps this could be a good opportunity to share information. One could never have too many facts, after all. Eon decided to start by guiding the conversation towards that direction in general.
"Yes. I've found that's the best way to stay out of trouble. It's harder to be be found when you are constantly moving."
If Gem was aware of the dangers of the ICIB, she would know full well why staying "out of trouble" was so important. If not, Eon supposed there would be some explaining to do.

Smith
Male
Unicorn
27 Years
Human Form
With 26
At a Park

Smith narrowed his eyes slightly as he watched his unexpected companion analytically. As odd as this day was turning out to be, he could not shake the feeling that there was so much more to this situation than he was catching on to at first. This young man seemed terrified, but Smith had no clue as to what could be scaring him so badly.
Dark clouds rolled in suddenly above the pair and Smith hunched his shoulders a bit in anticipation of the unwelcome rain, but then his eyes widened. Was this guy making the clouds do that?
"Twenty-six...", Smith began, drawing out the pronunciation in a way that made it sound more elegant and name-like than a simple number. "You're not like everyone else, are you?"
At that point, Smith glanced about to see if anyone was listening in on the conversation. If he was right about 26, they would have a lot to talk about and it was best to discuss it all behind closed doors. Smith wondered if it would freak 26 out to be invited to his apartment after having just met, but it seemed like the most secure place to talk openly about who was what and where they came from.
