{Eyes all but narrowing at the girl's arrogant tone, Viera clacked her teeth in frustration at the fragile situation she had managed to manoeuvre herself into. The band around her wrist still vibrated silently along her arm, reminding her of the unspoken time limit that rested upon her before she had to return to her work- not to mention a somewhat paranoid Tairad, it would seem.

This girl, young though she was, was not fond of beating around the bush apparently. Although her actions previously may suggest otherwise, Viera had little doubt that she was as tough as her words she spoke. Danger seemed an almost foreign concept to her, as she easily accepted the IAF officer's words unflinchingly.

"Yes, murders," Viera replied as calmly as she could manage, but paused before saying anymore. Though her intention had never been to recruit these children to help with the strange cases, if somehow she could convince this girl the IAF had no aim to hurt her or what she assumed to be her siblings, perhaps she would allow aid. Yet, what words could she possibly offer to a girl that had so little, and seemed to want nothing to do with her.

"We all have people we want to protect," Viera replied gravely at last, her eyes sliding across the girl's companions meaningful. "To do so alone may no longer be possible."

locking eyes with the girl, Kay's mind was flooding with possibilities of their future with the IAF. Would they someday join the IAF family once more? Would they find their parents? No! Their parents were dead, and it was all thanks to the man who ran the force. Rowan.

Hearing the girl's reasoning for why they should cooperate with the IAF made Kay finally realize what was going on and what could happen. The three of them weren't super Glacerion's. They wouldn't be able to fend off the new threat any better than the others.

Looking around at Aralio and Demari, she couldn't imagine life without them. Her eyes met Demari's and he slightly shook his head, showing his disapproval. He knew her background and didn't trust the IAF either. Kay closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

"Very well," she sighed. "We will come with you." There was no point in avoided it any longer. One week and two run-ins, there was no telling how long they would stay away from them.

{The girl's reluctant offer of cooperation was all Veira needed to take action. She gave a brief nod and smile to the children before sweeping her wrist up to her mouth, activating the speaker embedded into the electronic band.

"We're on our way back," Viera spoke quickly, cutting off Tairad before he could so much as speak a word. A soft sigh emanated from the speaker as the man understood her ploy, having known her long enough to understand her opinions on having any sort of backup. The only reason she even contacted him was to cease the annoying vibrations along her arm.

"Right, you know where I am," was all Tairad responded with for the moment, although Viera has no doubt she'd receive a lecture about the importance of communication on the force later. A beep indicated the silencing of the speaker, and with it Viera turned back to the others.

"I am Viera, by the way," she spoke as she turned to lead the way, intending to get them all back to headquarters as quickly as possible. "And this is Amos," she added, gesturing to the Dion attentively padding at her side.

While the girl turned away to speak to a device on her wrist, Kay looked over at Demari and saw disappointment in his eyes. She knew Demari trusted her so her stomach twisted when she thought he wasn't impressed with her decision. Without so much as a change in expression, Demari began walking behind Viera, not even waiting for Kay.

A hand pushed it's way into Kay's hand and she looked down to see Aralio's hand entangled in hers. She could tell by the look on his face he was trying to reassure her, but his eyes showed fear of the unknown. Aralio might have been young, but he wasn't oblivious.

With Aralio's hand in hers, Kay walked behind Demari and Viera, hoping she didn't make the wrong decision. Even thought the girl spoke her name, Kay wasn't about to tell her their names just yet. And she didn't worry about Demari spilling them either.

"Do you think we'll see mum and dad?" Aralio asked. Every day he always asked where their parents were, hoping they would one day come back.

"No, Aralio. They're gone. They're never coming back to us."

It wasn't long before Kay's senses were overwhelmed with the presence of many people. Although they weren't in sight, she could feel them through the ground. As soon as they turned a corner, the IAF officers were revealed and Kay's breath caught in her throat. There were so many of them. She couldn't believe they were actually willing to be surrounded by them. She just hoped she wouldn't run into the man who caused their isolation, Ronan Kerr.

{She had hopes that the offer of her own name would be enough to coax the same from the children, but it seemed as though they were still hesitant to divulge such information. At the moment, however , that complication ranked among the least of her concerns. With or without their assistance, a quick search of the police data banks should be able to provide the identities of the children; either a photo or sample of DNA would do just fine, pegging them in a matter of moments. Granted they were actually somewhere in the system, that is.

With the assistance of their ever advancing technology, the IAF were granted access to profiles from individuals from all across the known galaxy. It had provided marvellous leaps and bounds in the area of forensics, as guilty parties could be conclusively identified with little work on the analyzer's side, effectively minimizing the risk of human error. Even so, all that information would be useless if the children had indeed grown up on the brink of society all their lives. At the very least, though, perhaps they could track down a distant relative.

As Viera strode from the dim alleyway, she could not help but overhear whispered snippets of conversation from the two behind her. A tinge of pity for the orphans struck Viera, although she had suspected that fact from the beginning. Despite all the bitterness they had shown her, they were still alike. She had never been given the opportunity to meet her own mother, and even now the passing of her after was being claimed by the past, soon to be nothing more than a painful recollection. It was a difficult experience to be thrust into the world without a guiding hand; even if In her case, Ronan had, in many ways, stepped forward to fill the void in her father's absence.

Unable to dwell too long in the distressing thoughts, Viera soon found herself back onto the blocked off street, her fellow officers milling around the area. Tairad was instantly visible, having detached himself from the main group in order to not-so-patiently await their arrival. Though he said nothing as Viera led them to where he stood, she knew him well enough understand the meaning of the seemingly steady gaze directed their way.

"Not a word," Viera warned once they reached the man, cutting off any possible remark before he had so much as opened his mouth.

"I didn't say anything," Tairad replied dryly as she brushed by him. "Besides," he added with a hint of sarcasm, "what could I possibly reprimand you for? Certainly not personal endangerment, or anything of the sort."

His words were enough to cause Viera to roll her eyes. He'd break into a lecture about official procedure and other such frivolities later, she was sure, but for now she was content to simply change the subject. "You'll remember Tairad here," she adressed the children, gesturing to him.

Tairad, thankfully dropping the topic for now, turned to nod to the children. His mouth opened to say something, though he was abruptly cut off.

For at that moment, a deafening gunshot resounded in the street.

Both officers reacted immediately, ducking behind the nearest source of cover, dragging the children unceremoniously along with them. Amos followed too, a low growl rumbling at the back of his throat at the unexpected turn of events. Viera was aware of a steady stream of voices now tumbling through her activated earpiece, but for now she paid them little heed. Her heart pounded feverishly in her chest, and although the situation had just been thrown into an unstable state, what put her least at ease was the sound of the shot. It in no way resembled the quiet buzz of the IAF standard weapons, or any legal weapon, for that matter. Which meant it was black market, and in all likelihood, deadly.

As Viera was talking to the man they had seen the earlier that week Anikalo held tightly onto Aralio's hand. Looking down at him, she could see how overwhelmed he was by the crowd. They hadn't been surrounded by that many people in so long. Especially the specific crowd.

Just as the man known as Tairad nodded towards them, they heard the gunshot. By instinct, Kay began to disappear into the ground. She managed to stop herself before she got too deep and quickly resurfaced, hoping everyone else was too preoccupied by the event unfolding to notice her act.

Kay scuttled behind the cover Viera had hastily found, immediately being rammed by Aralio's fear-filled body as he tried to hide away from the danger. Demari too was hiding behind the same cover but was no where close to Kay, even in a time of danger.

No matter how much Kay refused, Demari was always the one to step between her and a threat. Now, with Demari not even flinching to by her side, Kay's heart ached. But how some girls might break down with that feeling, it only angered Kay. If that was how Demari wanted to act, then let him have his little fit. Kay was sure she had made the right decision. She could feel it.

Rashcleigh also reacted immediately to the gunshot and positioned herself in front of the others, right next to Amos. From their first meeting, she wasn't a huge fan of the other Dion and wasn't about to let him get all the credit for bravery. Sure he could summon light, but that wasn't going to intimidate Ash.

{Guns already drawn and held stiffly at their sides, Viera and Tairad peered around their impromptu cover. Chaos seemed to have erupted in the street, although the source of the commotion was still beyond their sight.

"Stay down," Viera ordered the children gruffly as she pushed herself up, catching Tairad's eye. He gave a sharp nod in return, and together they pushed away from cover.

Pushing forward to join their comrades, Viera realized then that the action was over just as quickly as it began. The amount of IAF officers crawling over the street was enough to shut down the incident as quickly as it began, and a quick scan of the area revealed little damage and no causalities. A remarkably positive outcome, given the circumstances.

"Valois, Demaio," a rough voice suddenly growled as Ronan strode into view, obviously less than pleased by the shift in events.

"Commander," Tairad and Viera said in unison as they straightened, backs ramrod straight in the presence of their commanding officer.

Knowing the common procedure for a crisis in the IAF, Anikalo was furious that they were expected to sit there helplessly as the others tended to the situation at hand.

When the panic died down and the situation was under control, Kay began standing up from behind their cover when she heard an all too familiar voice approach them. She quickly sat back down, her back against their makeshift cover. Aralio had heard the voice too and was sitting right beside Kay. Of all the people in the world, Ronan was the very last one she wanted to run into. They might have been able to hide their identities for a little while longer and stay peaceful. But with the arrival of her worst enemy, Kay was put into the worst mood. And that was saying something given her usual mood.

Rashcleigh relaxed as the event died down but returned rigid when Ronan appeared. She too knew the children's feelings towards that man and despised him as much as they did. Her growl showed she meant business. Even if others tried to control her, she wouldn't let them.

Demari knew they were no big fans of Ronana but still walked out from behind the barrier. Without so much as a glance in Kay's direction. That was really ticking her off. Finally, Kay stood up and faced Ronan.

"Commander, eh?" Kay spoke, sarcasm flooding within her words as she crossed her arms. "Now isn't that cute. What, did they feel bad for you and decide to give you a little pick-me-up?" Ronan knew her hatred for him so she wasn't about to give him any respect he didn't deserve. It was the least he deserved.

{"Status report," Ronan barked out, stern gaze moving from Tairad to Viera.

As close as she had become to the commander in the years following her father's death, he never failed to be simply that; her commander. He could be compassionate, yes, but also downright terrifying. It was ones of the very reasons he had been both promoted and as successful as he was in a position of command. Then man had the ability to a create a presence about himself, marking him the leader that he was. And it was also something almost palpable at the moment, with his steely eyes shifting impatiently as he awaited their report.

"No injuries to report, sir," Viera replied immediately to his inquiry. "We were too far away to really see what happened there."

Ronan gave a quick nod in response, seemingly unsurprised. "That's what I expected. I'm afraid we really don't have anything to go off of. Some guy managed to procure an illegal weapon, and came down the street gun ablaze. Currently no known motive."

There was a pause in his speech for Ronan gave a light sigh, shaking his head. "We'll have to initiate a full investigation as soon as we get back to HQ. I don't know what the hell to think of these things anymore."

Viera and Tairad exchanged a quick glance with one another, understanding their commander's frustration, though both still a little unnerved by it. It took quite a bit to get under Ronan's skin; he was about as tough an' gruff as they came, and the fact the recent situations had managed to disturb him was unsettling. Something in the universe was off, indeed.

"Actually, sir, there was on other thing I wanted to mention," Viera began intending to inform him of the children, before a cold, taunting voice echoed from behind them.

She realized then she should have known something was off when Amos stiffened at her side, growling softly in warning at the other Dion's tense stance. Viera's eyes shifted uneasily to Ronan when the girl addressed him by name, and found her own surprise echoes in his eyes. Had the tension not been as tangible as it was, she may have even laughed at seeing her commander shocked as he was.

It had taken a moment for recognition to glint in his eye, but now Ronan stared at the girl before him with barely contained surprise.

"Kelane. Anikalo Kelane," Ronan said, the "commander tone" banished from his voice. "I haven't seen you in years. How did you manage to find yourself here?"

Kay chuckled at the look that was stuck on Ronan's face. Yes it was true she had been absent from the city for quite some time but she had been around long enough for someone to know of her presence. Obviously Ronan's detective skills were dwindling with his old age.

"Well some may call it fate. Others destiny," she began in a poetic tone. "I just like to call it wrong place wrong time. I'm gunna have to reset my score now. Look what you did Ronan."

Truthfully, hearing her last name again tugged at so many heartstrings it hurt. She hadn't heard that name be said in so many years. Everywhere she went no one knew her. At the sound of her last name, it reminded her of the many times in the IAF headquarters when that name would be constantly spoken. With both her parents being high ranking officers, it wasn't uncommon to hear their name at some point in time.

"You're cadets here found us and wanted to play big cop so decided to bring us in for questioning. Obviously they're new on the force or they wouldn't need to question us to know who we were." Kay shot Viera an unimpressed look. "And no it's not because of my criminal record. Never been caught to have one."

Kay paused for a moment, arms crossed, looking at the bewildered man that stood before her.

"So what is this crisis i've heard so much about lately?" She didn't know if Ronan was going to use his mouth other than to gawk or if he was actually going to say something useful. But either way she was itching to know what was going on. From the IAF's perspective.
