"I think I was, what, thirteen or fourteen? She was actually a gift," Mara started. She strode over to the bushes in which the colorful rune was hiding, quickly scooping the dragon up before she had a chance to protest.
"The idea of being a wandering rune bearer was really exciting, you know? I had tried to find a rune of my own, but to no avail. I scared so many sparrow runes away in my desperation," she laughed, petting Canvas to try to keep her still. The dragon's talons flailed as she tried to find a perch upon her bearer's arm.
