A deep guffaw erupted into the nearly-quiet forest, followed by a peal of delighted laughter from another. Loud chatter could be heard as the pair walked at a leisurely pace down the well-worn path to their destination. The taller of the two, with his wildly curly red hair tied back into a loose pony tail, made gestures in response to a joke he had told incorrectly, which coaxed yet another giggle from the smaller girl.
She herself was blushing bright pink with joy. Her long, nearly platinum blonde hair swung from her shoulders and all the way to her waist. It was she who spotted the cabin first, stopping in her tracks and pointing excitedly in its direction. "Edgar, look, we're almost there," she bounced on her toes like a small child, as if waiting for confirmation from Edgar that indeed, they were almost there. They hadn't been traveling long together at all, maybe three or four days. Before then, they hadn't ever met. It was remarkable how close they had gotten in the span of a few days' travel.
"Go on ahead, I'll fetch Arian and your dire from the forests. They must be around here somewhere." Edgar nudged her to continue and jogged lightly to the forest, disappearing after a few moments. His voice could be heard as he shouted his bond's name.
May nodded to herself, feeling for the first time apprehension at meeting new people. Edgar was gone and it was her alone to greet their new traveling partners, and she didn't know what to expect. She started to walk towards the cabin, at a much faster pace this time now that Edgar had gone. The cabin itself was surrounded by a meager wooden fence, perhaps to keep sheep and goats from straying away before it had been sold as a temporary inn. The grass was long, yet well taken care of. It reached higher than her ankles, even in her boots. The old wrap-around porch had a thin mosquito-film, in many places it was ripped or broken, rendering it useless until repaired. A large wooden door greeted her after she had stomped up the steps.
Upon reaching the door, she rapped on it a few times, unsure of whether or not she should just walk in. 'I wonder what they're going to be like?' she thought to herself as she looked back down the trail.
