My mother the other day, went to this university she wants me to go to. Well, apparently she loves to garden so she decided she nip some of the plants outside and on bushes, then runs home to plant them in her own garden.
:lol: That was adorable.

    OH HEY I JUST SAW THIS THREAD HELLO HELLO

    Okay, our house has a lot of high up windows and is basically filled with sunlight from dawn to dusk. When my parents first got the house, they bought a few banana leaf plants to go along with it (no actual bananas XD we don't actually want them so we keep the conditions at the point where the wont flower) and now the leaves have grown so big that the pots they're in have a two and a half feet diameter and they almost reach the second story ceiling. They actually do have the potential to grow more, but we aren't replacing the pots to allow that to happen.

    The problem is, they're ridiculously hard to manage when it comes to pruning and getting rid of unwanted leaves/buckled stems.I'm the one in charge of pruning and cutting the two banana plants, but it takes me around five minutes to saw through a stem with one of those package openers, and I'm not allowed to handle shears, haha. ^^;

    Because it's impossible for me t cleanly cut off the stem in a suitable place (It's too thick for me to cut off around the base, and the break in the stem is never high up enough for the leaf to regrow) a buildup of dead plant stems/leaves has kind of coalesced around the bottom of the plant. None of the videos or articles I've found seem to be helpful, because the banana plant is either not as big as ours or of a different variety. Has anyone ever cared for big plants before and knows how to get rid of dead matter around the base? I'm not sure if I should shear it off or cut it as precisely as I can, or use some other ways... ^^;

    //edit: I'll try to get a picture when I can, if that might help.

of death simply waiting for love,
of that love unrequited;
I will never quit,

Hello there,

A Banana plant sounds really cool. :D But i have no idea how to care for one. We just tend to get a pair of scissors and cut off all the dead branches/leaves- though we mostly have rather small plants, so not really sure if that works for a Banana plant.

Your mystery plant looks like a young Geranium carolinianum to me. It's um. It's a weed. A pretty weed, though.

Has anyone here dealt with cactus?

Also what about terrariums?

To bump, Spring is coming soonish! If the weather allows, you should take care of your gardens and outdoor potted plants!

Here the issue is that it's been super warm compared to normal, so everything is ahead on schedule. Now this week it will seriously freeze, so we'll have to see what survives the frost...

Update on the plants. The late winter / early spring flowers are all doign wonderfully well! We'll have a cold weekend of -5°C again this weekend which I didn't realise and I already weeded out around my Aquilegias, but hopefully they'll stay fine!
