Where Three Roads Meet Discussion

Postby Commander Shepard » Thu Feb 05, 2015 5:25 pm

Beep beep main thread
Lore and Info -- MUST READ!

This is for all discussion and character sheets relating to the roleplay go :)

Current events:
Drake Trials underway in Alabaster City! People of all sorts have flocked to the grand city from every corner of the globe-- some to participate, some to take advantage of the opportunities such large crowds can give, and some just to enjoy the festivities or (depending on where they come from) size up their future prey. Vendors from all countries have come to show their wares, the streets are jam-packed with popup stalls selling everything from traditional cuisine to medicine to that necklace you swear looks exactly like the family heirloom your mother lost last night.

Your characters can... welp, be doing just about anything xD They might be coming to try and bond with a Drake, maybe hanging around to meet new people, whatever.

Suggestions for future events are always welcome, as while this is primarily character-interaction based, we do need stuff to happen to prompt said interactions xD Please remember, unless you are playing an Ancient under human guise, all creatures must have a humanoid companion. They don't need to be bonded right away, but there aren't going to be like... any strictly feral non-humanoids as characters.

Note: After realizing we have no stated info on Phoenixes, and only one that's not technically an established character, I'm going to say no Phoenixes in this roleplay until further notice just to be safe xD

Second Note: Please, make sure you read the lore and info thread :) I know not everything is filled in yet, but for what is, we're sticking to it!

Sheets are mostly make-your-own, but here's a premade in case you need:

Shepard

Postby Commander Shepard » Thu Feb 05, 2015 5:26 pm

Humanoid

Username:
Commander Shepard

Character Name:
Shepard {'Real' name is unknown}

Gender:
Female (She/her)

Race:
Half-blood (human/avian)

Homeland:
Celtlands

Age:
22

Personality:
A quiet woman, Shepard has spent most of her life looking after others, both by her own choice and... well, not by her choice. She is nervous around others both new and familiar, but manages to work through without freaking out until much later on (though she does have a terrible habit of second-guessing virtually every word or interaction); and she does relax significantly once a common interest has been found. Indeed, Shepard often finds herself drawing the attention of others without intending to, and while past instances have left her very wary of fully trusting others and calling them friends, she often forms decent acquaintanceships without too much trouble. While she will speak up and lead if needed, Shepard far prefers to stay quiet and observe, acting only when necessary. She is also willing to fight if a situation calls for, though she is almost never one to throw the first punch-- she'd rather keep out of trouble entirely, or work her way out with reason and words.
She has spent most of her life out away from more than her family, and is more at home with the various creatures of Eldemore than people-- something she's just fine with, given the general attitude towards hybrids (which she prefers calling herself over the more derogatory 'half-blood'). Though she's only made one true (and tenuous at that) bond with a creature in her lifetime, she has won the allegiance of a few creatures, who tend to accompany her on her travels. Is generally agnostic, though if ever pressed, she says her allegiance lies with the Chaos Ancient. Loves to read and write, though she has trouble maintaining any real discipline on it

History:
Shepard was found by a rural human family when she was only a few days old, wrapped up in an old blanket, curled with a strange egg and blue-black feather, both of which were left in the woods when they took the child. After that though... her childhood was downright boring for the most part. She was raised on a farm and expected to work as soon as she was able, usually tending to the sheep and wooly Runes (where she got her name-- prior, she was simply 'girl' or 'you there'), or helping out in the garden. While her adoptive family always had suspicions about her heritage, it wasn't until she was four or five that it was confirmed. There was nothing frightening though, not at all-- one of her siblings just observed Shepard talking to a pair of ravens, holding what appeared to be a fully coherent conversation; and when asked later the girl said she had always been able to understand birds.

To their credit, her family didn't treat her much differently after this, though there was always... a little more suspicion from then on, as they'd heard a great many rumors about what could come from such a strange mix, but (much to their relief) nothing much ever really seemed to come of it. There were even a few boons as they learned, usually doing with Shepard being able to talk the crows into eating somewhere that wasn't their crops. However, Shepard did learn some of those rumors rather early in her life-- tales of half-avians gone mad, becoming monstrous demons and destroying anything in their path, often having to be killed or simply dying from the strain it took on their bodies. She would spend many nights up in fear of this, trying hard to control her temper in case that was what it took, and... well, generally becoming a nervous wreck the more she understood what her mixed blood meant and what it meant for her place in society.

Anxiety led to nightmares, as it often does, which left Shepard (fourteen or so at the time) sleepless and often even more nervous or crabby than before. However... it seemed fate decided to smile on her then, when one night she crossed her room to find a strange form lingering there-- a blue-purple Rune all covered with beads, one of the rare Dream Catchers. Though unable to properly bond, the Rune did seem to understand Shepard's plight, and settled in as a friend, helping her nights be a little easier at least. The next few years saw Shepard befriend a few other creatures-- Songbird, and Elizabeth a pair of Glassworks who she found nearly trampled by the sheep; and Herald, a Winter Wreath Elkrin. Shepard was content with her companions-- even if she couldn't properly bond, they were good friends, what else could she ask for?

When Shepard was twenty or so though, things began to change. It started when sheep went missing. At first just one or two, but after the favorite old ram Rune had been stolen, something had to be done. Shepard set out alone through the woods to see if he could be saved. She and her companions happened upon a creature the likes of which they'd never seen, barely even heard of...

Long story short? The egg, left abandoned before, had been that of a griffin, and it had survived through the years, and had finally grown so large, it turned to raiding local farms for food. The ram was still alive though, and Shepard dove in to rescue the Rune, which led to quite a scuffle with the griffin. In the fight though, the two seemed to... recognized something in each other, and though Shepard was left rather beat up and bloody (and Paine with a few good wounds herself), they left the forest together, connected by a fragile, but undeniable bond.

Appearance:
Tall but stocky (about 5'10, little over 200lb), fairly pale-- she doesn't tan much if at all, just burns and freckles a bunch. Arms and hands are rather scarred. Left eye is a dark brown, right is deep blue. Prominent dark circles under her eyes, she does not sleep well. Messy, shoulder-length dark brown hair, clothing is generally simple wool or cotton tunics and breeches in white, black and gray. Heavy gray leather boots. Wears a dagger around her left leg, and a silver band set with amethyst on her left arm. (Later takes to wearing a black and gray cloak). Often wears four earrings, two in each ear, split evenly between silver and steel. (mockups: 1 2)

Companions:
Elizabeth, Songbird, Herald, Ashlyn

Bonded creature: Paine {Due to her half-Avian nature, Shepard and Paine's bond is tenuous at best, the two have to rely on the old-fashioned method of earning each others' trust to make it really work. However, they can read the other's emotions fairly well, and seem to be slowly falling more into sync.}

----

Creature:
Name: Paine
Gender: Female
Species:[/b Griffin (Sooty Tiger)
[b]Personality:
After so much time alone, Paine is... often loud and brash, generally uncaring about what others might think of her. She is fairly intelligent, though prefers to spend her intellect on acquiring a lot of wisdom on a few subjects she really enjoys. She can be rather... destructive, whether intentional or not, her bulk means she often just steps or sits on something and suddenly it's useless... however, she is surprisingly dexterous with her forelimbs, and can often pull off some innovative repairs.

She is very up-front with others, making her opinions known as clearly as possible-- great for those she loves, but often leads to a lot of very rude moments. She has a short temper and a loud screech, which can be great for getting others in line... but very unhelpful when a situation calls more for compromise, especially when Shepard is trying to take charge of things.

For a griffin though, Paine is extremely sensitive-- her worth lies in how useful she is to others, no matter how much she might hear otherwise, and she can often be found moping and (metaphorically) beating herself up when she isn't performing to her (often far too high or otherwise unreasonable) standards. Tends to be highly impulsive, acting before thinking, or otherwise just not figuring in consequences before doing something. Determination is something to behold, though usually born from being told she can't do something; Paine will do everything in her power to prove the challenger wrong.

Appearance: Image About the size of a Siberian Tiger. No riding gear aside from a collar for Shepard to hang onto.

Other:

Creature:

Name: Ashlyn
Gender: Female
Species: Rune Dragon (Dream Catcher)
Personality: Silent, but very sweet and affectionate, likes to be cuddled.
Appearance: Here! (About the size of a great horned owl)
Other: Used to be bonded to a human, but lost the connection some years ago.

Name: Elizabeth
Gender: Female
Species: Glasswork (Delta 1)
Personality: Quick-witted but a little naive, very good at finding things others might miss at first glance. Likes to hoard shiny things.
Appearance: Here!
Other: Seems to be life-long friends with Songbird.

Name: Songbird
Gender: Male
Species: Glasswork (Springtime)
Personality: Protective, and often downright violent for a Glasswork, when his friends are in danger. Often carries a needle around.
Appearance: Here! Abnormally large for a Glasswork, about the size of an Atlas Moth.
Other: Seems to be life-long friends with Elizabeth.

Name: Herald
Gender: Female
Species: Elkrin (Winter Wreath)
Personality: Steadfast and cautious, very imposing. Has no qualms headbutting others out of her way.
Appearance: Here! (Antlers are rather small and spindly; result of a mutation that sometimes leaves does with antlers. ... actual thing that happens in rl deer too :D)
Other: Is often given a wide berth by other elkrin due to her mutation. Does not accompany Shepard into cities, but will follow her through almost any and all wild locations.

Ancient- Faded galaxy
Homeland:
The endless forest.
Age: (must be 18+ to participate in Drake Trials)
24
Personality:
Tsubaki is a bit uptight.. And has a large ego. Of course this all comes from the fact that she is one the ancients. And one of the oldest. Because of this. She thinks she is royality. And must be treated with the upmost respect and diginity. She does look down on others. And considers herself one of the most powerful ancients in the land. The only person she doesn't act like this around, and the only one who can put her in her place. Is the great elderwind

I will work on that.

{ I'll give this a shot ♥ With the Lore up, I've gotten so many character ideas and I have been looking for a new Elde-based RP.
I just have a quick note: I used the form from the Companionship Index c: }

Name:
Lavelle "Vel" Cyanocitta*

Gender:
Female

Age:
19 years

Nationality or place of origin:
Avian (Warrior of House Cyanocitta)

Appearance:
Image
xXx xXx
Lavelle has light tan skin, stands at about 5' 10" (which is actually quite short for an Avian), and has a lithe, small-boned physique that is built for agility and running rather than brute hand-to-hand combat. She has straight, waist-length obsidian hair that could easily be mistaken for the hair of an Orient. Vel is almost always seen with her hair tied up in a high ponytail that just reaches the small of her back. Her startling peacock blue eyes and silver-tinged talons contrast starkly against her dark hair, giving her the signature predatory look of an Avian. As for her clothes, Vel is usually seen wearing long boots, leggings/jeans, and a comfortable blouse. Unlike other Avians who have intricate tattoos or jewelry adorning their bodies, Vel prefers to wear a jay's feather in her hair and a single silver earring that is exactly like the earring Seraph wears.
Vel's plumage resembles that of a Steller's Jay. The feathers that speckle her legs and arms are coal-black and hued with cobalt - this effect makes Vel seem as if she is constantly shifting. The feathers that lay close to her forehead are a bright blue, accentuating her eyes. The primary coverts on her wings are the same black as the feathers on her legs and arms. However, her primaries and secondaries are a vivid cyan that are sometimes striped with black.

Personality:
Lavelle is curious and always seeks knowledge. She will go out of her way to learn the simplest things, even if it endangers her life. She wishes to know everything there is, and despises being left in the dark. Vel is intelligent and can figure things out easily. But Vel is quick to lose patience, and even though she is able to think and come up with a sound plan in danger or a stressful situation, she will often times follow her head rather then her heart. Which is not always a good thing...
Lavelle can also be a cheeky, lively, and sometimes sarcastic Avian who does not know when to mind her own business and shut up. She can be endearing, and sometimes sweet in her naivety, though it could be exasperating to someone who does not see the brightness in life but rather the darkness. She tends not to be a pessimist but is rather an optimist, and is quite vocal in her beliefs. She does have a bit of a temper though and uses both her talons and sharp tongue to attack before she thinks about what she's saying. She can be both a leader and a follower - it wouldn't take much to be her friend, however, if you betray her, it would take a lot to regain her trust.

Skills and weaknesses:
Years of being an Avian warrior has shaped Lavelle into a living, breathing weapon. She has lightning-fast reflexes, is good at thinking on her feet, and is especially deadly when paired with her favored weapon, the bow and arrow.
However, Vel is liable to make rash decisions and blurts out whatever is on her mind before she thinks.

Skills and/or weaknesses acquired from companion:
Although Vel and Sera are a bit small compared to other Avians/Griffons, they have trained themselves to be extremely agile and swift on both land and air rather than learning to fight with brute strength. In the midst of battle, this petite pair is able dart among enemy ranks and deal a great amount of damage before swooping away and out of reach, weakening their rivals to the point that their Avian and Griffon alliances have a substantial advantage.

Other:
Lavelle is mainly going to the Drake Trials out of curiosity, the aspect of adventure, and, of course, she would never pass up the chance to taunt the Drake riders. Oh, and Vel and Sera have always been life-long friends ~

* Her last name is probably going to change in the future to fit with Elde lore ~

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Name:
Sera (short for Seraph)

Gender:
Female

Age:
Young Adult

Species:
Griffon

Type:
Yellow-Billed Blue Finch

Appearance:
Image
xXx
Seraph resembles a Yellow-Billed Blue Finch. She is about the size of an average horse, but weighs much lighter. Her plumage ranges from a deep cobalt blue to a light azure color, allowing her to blend in with both the day and night sky. Some of her feathers are tinged with silver, giving her a glossy look. The end of her long, plumed tail and her down-covered underbelly are a very pale ice blue. There is a very dark strip of blue feathers running from the tuft on her head to her curved yellow beak. Sera's eyes are pitch black, making it difficult to read her emotions from just her eyes. Her front feet are a light beige, tipped with razor-sharp silver talons. In addition, Sera always wears a long silver earring that was given to her by Lavelle.

Personality:
Seraph is a courageous Griffon with a passion for adventure. She loves exploring the unknown and taking risks, and is always looking to find thrill and excitement in her life as she soars across the land of Eldemore. Sera is also strong-willed, believes she can accomplish anything she puts her mind to, and rarely thinks of failure. In fact, in Sera's eyes, failure is not an option. Because of this, she takes pride in everything she does, and adamantly refuses to hear anything negative about herself. Furthermore, she is not easily hurt by others and their words.

(Decided to use Sterling. Just... just because. XP)

Image
Humanoid
Username:
Silverhart
Character Name:
(Lieutenant) Sterling Roscoe
(You may call him Roscoe or Mr. Sterling, Sir XP)
Gender:
Male
Race:
Human
Homeland:
Alabaster City
(might change it, as we learn more about the lore)
Age:
27
Personality:
Sterling is a friendly, charming personality, who thrives on attention, and loves being around people. He would be lost without people to feed his sense of self importance, and gets his feathers ruffled when he is denied respect he feels due to him. Analytical, thoughtful, and adaptable, Roscoe enjoys showing off his extensive knowledge, which may or may not be completely accurate. Possessing quite a bit of an ego, he dislikes being corrected, or made to feel less important.

Sterling loves knowledge. Knowledge is power to him, and he will go far out of his way on a quest for curiosity. He enjoys delving into a new book or exploring some new town or city - often exploring those less savory parts, and getting into trouble. Luckily for him, he is quick on his feet, and just as fast a talker, and has so far managed to avoid any permanent damage. He is interested in literature, philosophy, politics, and mathematics, specifically, although no one who has dealings with him would believe he has any interest in culture whatsoever, owing to his appalling manner of indifference. History he finds sort of dull, and anything too complex seems to go over his head. He prefers to live in the present.

Roscoe always tries to maintain an attitude of refined disdain, and sometimes even succeeds. His family is not very well bred, but Sterling still holds himself in the highest regard, even as his family looks down their noses at his 'devil-may-care'ness.

Sterling is constantly on the look out for new experiences and discoveries. He is adventurous, though he often tries to play himself calm and collected (he's really not). He needs to keep moving, and to always have some sort of plan, though he is flexible and willing to change it in an instant if circumstances arise. He is competent when he has to be, but as a rule he's generally too wrapped up in himself to be of much use otherwise. His hand-to-hand skills are paltry, being a barely passable swordsman. His main weapons however, are diplomacy, and tactics. He was passable as a commander of gun crews in his stint as Lieutenant, where he could put his analytical mind to good use. Over the years he's gathered quite a lot of useless talents, such as dealing cards, waltzing, sewing (maybe that one's not so useless), knife and card throwing, knot tying, and can even build a six tier card house on a good day (he had way too much free time in his youth... and a lot of cards).

History:
The third of five brothers, Sterling was always something of a black sheep, more interested in betting races and collecting books, then seafaring. His family was a well-to-do Naval family, well known for breeding Dire wolves for use by the Wardens, and with a history of it's sons pursuing fabulous Naval careers. His two older brothers are a marine, and post-captain, and he has a younger brother training as an Admiral's clerk.

Sterling himself went to university to become a lawyer and flunked out with flying colors. Under pressure from his family, he joined the Navy, and after passing his test, earned a commission through his father's patronage as Lieutenant. He's a capable sailor, but probably not the best choice for such an important rank. He carries out his duties, but how well he does is up for debate. However through charm, and his family's influence he maintained his standing on board his ship. As per tradition upon passing his test, Sterling was to be chosen by a Dire Wolf puppy to be his bonded. However, he was instead given Moritz, a grizzled adult Forest Dire, who had been bonded (or companion to... not sure how that'll work) to a ship's carpenter before he was killed in battle.
Neither are very happy with the arrangement, but both are far too polite to say so, and do their best to make their partnership work in spite of everything.

Now he's on the search for adventure, gold, and good company.

Appearance:
Updated Picture is updated! Huzzah!
(I have a better one, but it isn't finished yet, so... old art. Bleh.)
Sterling stands tall and upright, showing off his even, solid build. He is somewhat lanky, with narrow shoulders, and long legs. He keeps his sandy brown hair at a reasonable length. His face is oval, sporting hazel eyes, and a straight nose. His movements are easy and broad, and he exudes an air of sophisticated nonchalance. He is fairly well coordinated and balanced.
Usually bedecks himself in expensive shirts, and bright jackets, and feathered hats, although while working he's more inclined to be wearing a simple loose shirt, trousers, and his old black jacket.

Companions:
none yet
Bonded creatures:
Moritz, the Black Forest Dire Wolf

Creature:
Name:
Moritz
Gender:
female
(despite the fact that Moritz is a male name, which is endlessly baffling to Sterling for some reason)
Species:
Forest Dire Wolf

Personality:
Dignified, polite, obedient, and genteel, Moritz in general is a very well-mannered Dire wolf. A prim and proper lady, for all her humble beginnings. But like all her kind, beneath the facade dwells a wild and fierce animal. She seems to match her Warden's analytical and opinionated mind with her own, often coming across as cynical and independent.

Patient and calm, Moritz is very well disciplined, unlike her Warden, and always strives to serve the greater good. Though with Roscoe she is often headstrong and willful, often acting against his wishes, she would never outright disobey an order. Deep down, there is a desperate need for approval in her, and although Sterling isn't always appreciative, she is still fiercely loyal and protective of him. She is determined not to fail her Warden again, despite the lack of affection between them. Although sometimes Sterling needs to be kept in line, which she does with much sarcasm, and enjoyment. She rarely gets angry, and so it amuses her when she can prick his pride a bit.

Moritz has a very strong sense of pack mentality, although in contrast she herself is very stand-offish in most social situations. Where Roscoe is outgoing and charismatic, she is more reserved and thoughtful, with a tendency to hang back and not make the first move; afraid of making mistakes, and generally being suspicious of new situations. She prefers things to be familiar and orderly, which is a goal in total opposition of her Warden's.

Appearance:
Image

Other:
Moritz's forest magic coupled with her extensive experience working with a carpenter, means she can tell various things about wood, just from the scent and other factors – such as the climate it's from, if it is hardwood or softwood (and often the species), the best way to cut it, and most useful, whether it has rot or woodworms. Her magic means the longer she's exposed to a piece, the more she can tell about it.

Also, I'm back and forth on calling Sterling by his first or last name. Sterling seems to be growing on me, but he prefers being called by his last name in more formal situations.

(I plan on getting Sterling into the most trouble possible. XP Everyone go and make his life horrible, okay? Just poke him with a stick or something until he snaps.)

... actually, since we've only got the two Phoenixes, and one (Steve the Phoenix) is kind of an established character, I'm going to say no Phoenixes at all until we get some more info on them? ^^; The rest we have a vague idea to go off of, but we've got nothing on these guys yet xD
