Am I just really lucky, or is it common to get rares on this site currently? I'm relatively new and I've gotten quite a few pets that turned out to be rare!

It's not very common for pets to turn out rare, however Legacy pets tend to be more rare than other monthlies. I'd say it's just coincidence.
