(The capture pen one)

but I still dunno! Thanks!

I was a beginner 6 Months ago and I use this tablet:
http://www.amazon.com/Wacom-Intuos-Touc ... +and+touch

It's pretty good for beginners and also for advanced artists. You should give it a shot. ^^

Yes! ^^ I might be biased because I have an intuos, but I honestly feel it's good but simple. Not a lot of fancy buttons, and pretty great for beginners. c:

I really like the color scheme!
Despite having no shading it looks really finished up and natural :)

Haha it really has been a long time. XD I really love the pastel colours and the folds in the clothing! They make the clothing seem much more natural in the way they hang off the body, great job! That being said, be mindful of your proportions; forearms are generally the same length, and fingertips generally reach a little further than mid-thigh. I'm a bit unsure if you were going for a bent arm or a straight arm, so apologies. DX Also, hands/palms should also be the same width, if not more, of your forearm! So be careful of that too. c: generally, it's just proportion; make sure that you don't accidentally make the limbs smaller the further they continue; lord knows I do that real often. XD I really enjoy his expression and I'm sure you'll do just fine shading; I can't wait to see the finished product! ^v^b

Hey guys! I'm desperately looking for help! So I was just recently given 100 Derwent Pastel pencils from my grandmother. The thing is, I have never used pastels before and I'm wondering if any of you guys have, and could give me tips on how to use them?

Also, what colouring pencils do you guys use? I'm trying to look for a good brand, but the only brands I know are the Faber Castell Polychromos and the Prismacolors. Any help would greatly be appreciated!

Ooohhh, wow, so many Pastels!!! Pencils work a little differently than regular sticks of pastels, so perhaps some of the advice I'm giving won't be applicable, but hopefully it helps!

The general "process" of pastel art goes like this: a light outline of your drawing done with something other than pastel(it smudges too easily), negatives, base colours, then highlights. Colouring is quite flexible, but I do suggest leaving highlights and very light colours till last, as blending them too much can give them a muddy quality. If you want to preserve the drawing and make sure the pastel doesn't smudge later, you can put it in one of those transparent plastic holders for paper, or use a fixative if you don't mind subtle changes in colour.

When you're blending with pastel, you can use paper stumps or your fingers. You can also do of hard shading with softer pastels, if your pencils have a range of hardness and if you're comfortable with that style. c: Seeing as you have to be pretty diligent about cleaning when you blend, I suggest using your fingers; be sure to clean them after every different colour blended(I use antibacterial wipes), so you don't mix colours. You also need to be careful what type of paper you use; your canvas should have a slight abrasive quality to it, or the pastel smudges too easily/doesn't stick the way you want.

All in all, you are the person drawing so take these with a grain of salt and adjust to whatever feels comfortable for you. ^^ I hope this is enough info! Have fun, your grandmother is an amazing person! xP

As for coloured pencils, I only use prismacolours or crayola pencils because I'm super broke so I don't believe I can help you much on that front, I'm afraid. :,D
