Dream
She dropped the fish and spread her wings, flying into the air. She torpedoed down toward where the bear and the other griffin was. She let out a screech while her talons were spread and her eyes were dilated, not even using her wings as she darted downward, feathers twitching with the wind.

Essix

Essix's heart leaped up into his throat when he heard a dreadful snapping sound, and felt the branch start to fall. The bear roared with satisfaction and opened its jaws to end the griffin's life. Essix yelped and leaped from the branch and dug his talons into the tree trunk, hanging on for dear life. He suddenly saw a flash of black feathers and heard a screech; not his, but another griffin's. Essix suddenly filled with hope; the grizzly wouldn't be able to take on two griffins in battle, especially not a starving one.
Well, Essix thought, his talons leaving claw marks on the tree trunk, it's about time I did something.
The bear seemed to be distracted by the other griffin's cry, because it seemed to be looking in another direction. This was the only chance Essix could get to fight back.
With a loud screech, not of fear, but of rage, he leaped from the tree trunk and twisted in the air, making him land straight on the grizzly's broad back. The bear was shocked for a few heartbeats, then started shaking its pelt and rearing up, trying to get griffin off its back. Essix dug his talons into the bear's shoulder blades and narrowed his eyes; he was not giving up without a little bear blood on his talons.
Wherever you are, he thought, thinking of the other griffin, I could sure use some help!

Dream
She was at high speed when she hit the bear, right in the face. She latched onto it as her talons dug deep into the bear's skin, not caring if it was hungry. She didn't want to let another one of her kind, or herself, get eaten alive.

Essix

Essix screeched with satisfaction as he dug his talons deeper into the bear's shoulders and saw maroon blood pouring from the wounds. He had latched on to the bear's back while the other griffin swiped it it's muzzle in a flurry of talons. He could hear the bear roaring with frustration and rage, for it knew that there was no escaping this one. Essix grinned triumphantly, but he relaxed his grip without knowing. The grizzly reared up and shook its pelt, throwing him off and sending him tumbling across the clearing. The bear swiped its claws one last time at the other griffin before turning and crashing off into the bushes, leaving a thin trail of blood as it ran.
The world was spinning as Essix got to his paws and stood up, stunned by how the bear could've thrown him that far when so weak. He stumbled and almost fell to the ground again, but he got his paws under control and shook his head to clear the dizziness. Essix looked around for the other griffin and saw it standing on the other side of the clearing, looking as battered and beaten as he was.

Dream

As the bear swiped at her, it cut her wings, causing her to fall. She quickly stood up, though, watching it run off before looking at the other griffin. Running over, she stopped in front of him. "Hey, are you alright?" She asked, flattening her wings against her side, causing blood to slide across her feathers, which sent a shiver down her back.

Essix

Essix groaned and realized that the griffin was right in front of him, giving him a thoughtful look. He was silent for a moment, feeling a drip of his own blood trickle down the side of his head. Essix shook his head again.
"Yes," he responded, shuffling his wings and folding them along his sides, "I'm alright. Thank you; I would have been dead if it weren't for you." Essix looked down, a wave of satisfaction washing over him at the sight of the bear's blood that smothered his talons.
Wait a second, he thought, suddenly remembering why the grizzly had tried to kill him in the first place. Where's my prey?
Essix's eyes scanned the clearing until his gaze rested on a clump of black feathers and blood. He sighed; the bear must have trampled it during the fight. That entire fight, all for nothing, and the thing the bear was after ended up being trampled by it's huge clumsy paws.
Stupid bear, Essix thought, bristling with anger.
He looked over at the other griffin and saw blood pooling next to her. Essix narrowed his eyes and saw that the pool of blood was hers.
"Are you alright?" he asked, "because you look worse than I do." He gestured with his tail to the other griffin's bleeding wing.

Dream

She spread her wing and looked at it with a sigh. "I'll be fine. Not the only scratch I got." She muttered the last part before looking back at him with a sweet smile.

Essix

Essix stood for a moment, eyeing the griffin's scratch on her wing. Then he shook his head.
"Alright, if you say so. Well, we might as well introduce ourselves; I'm Essix. Your name is?"
A breeze blew through the trees, ruffling his silver feathers as he spoke.

Dream

"Dream," She replied, the wind sending another chill down her back, "Nice to meet you, Essix." She nodded slightly in respect, talons digging into the soil as the coldness of the wind hit her scratch, making her tense up a bit.

Essix

Essix nodded. "Nice to meet you too, Dream." He looked at the ground and his talons twitched. He felt really awkward; he wasn't the best at starting conversations, since he doesn't really run into anyone while he travels.
"So," Essix started, looking up and meeting Dream's eyes, "what were you doing before this whole... thing happened?"
