The Wispers...
They come

Before you ask yes, I did spell "Wispers" that way deliberately.

Plotline

Nobody knows why they came... why they're here. What we do know is they're deadly as hell.

The first sightings occurred ten years ago, we believed them to be ghosts, hauntings of times past. Sadly that was no where near the truth, no these monsters are beings of our own creation. Every lie ever told, every item ever stolen and every murder ever committed built up malice in the mother nature's core. The blood of our dishonoured forefathers poisoning the ground beneath our feet and building up until the core burst, releasing the Wispers upon our unguarded souls.

Now it is not us who are at the top of the food chain.
It's them.

The Wispers cannot talk, at least not in a way our human ears and brain can understand. They exchange distant murmurs between one another, and this can be heard long before you come in contact with the ethereal beings themselves. Always travelling in packs and always at night the creatures mainly go after densely populated areas such as towns and cities, the malice of the human race feeding them, making the monsters stronger. They come to feast on our fear.

No knife or gun can harm a Wisper, humans are powerless to stop them.
Or so we thought.

For the first time in human history all governments and all continents have collaborated together to create a Special-Unit Taskforce to utilize the new technology, maybe we humans have finally met an enemy that can truly unite us.

What is this New Technology?

It's called "Systematic Ethereal Phase Control" if you find that too much of a mouthful feel free to call it "SEP."

Looking akin to a small, crystal globe the SEPs are around the size of a baby's fist and are usually kept in a small pouch on a person's belt. You use them by smashing them near a Wisper, the negative energy in the immediate vacinity is consequentially nullified, making the ethereal Wispers lose form and cease existing. These SEPs are not exactly harmful to humans however it is smarter to use them far away from your person if possible. By destroying all negative energy in the area it also destroys all negative energy you posses, you might think this is a good thing for human society. You would be wrong.

By nullifying all negative energy the SEPs leave the average human a drooling, giggling idiot on the floor, even when thrown far away a SEP can still have some effect creating a small smile or a tiny laugh when used.

How can they be used if the side effects can be so detrimental in battle?

It has been found that a person can build up a "SEP immunity" overtime through long-term low-level exposure to the synthetic gas. Those that are currently on the taskforce have already gone through this procedure during the past month or so. There have also been rumors of naturally immune people.

Why have SEPs not been handed out to every task force and household on earth?

The SEPs are an entirely artificial creation, the particles that make up the synthetic gas within the outer shell are so small that normal materials can not contain it while still keeping that smashing-function to release the gas. To harvest this gas takes quite a lot of effort not to mention the process one must go through to create the outer shell.

How was this Synthetic Gas Discovered?

The gas is around us at all times, but is so small and elusive that no scientist had invented the technology required to simply view this particle until recently. If you have ever experienced a day when you just seemed happy for absolutely no reason whatsoever, it is likely due to the gas. In areas where it is highly concentrated you often see people smiling and generally acting joyful, the effects often linger. Nicknamed "New Happy Gas" by the first scientists to discover it and later christened "Quinsonez" after the head scientist of the team, it is possibly one of the greatest unearthing in the history of science.

New weapons are currently being created.
