A samurai greatest honer is to die at the end of the blade.

Once upon a time the Gods and the humans used to work and live together. The Gods were the protectors of the humans and the humans worshiped the Gods. Relationships between the Gods and the humans were common and Demigods also lived among the people. It was the Demigods that started the wars.

The Demigods began calling themselves the Gods and began trying to get the humans to worship them just like how they did the pure Gods. But the Gods didn't like the Demigods taking away the attention and so an uproar began and the Gods waged war on the Demigods.

Seeing their friends and families being killed by the Gods, the humans decided to join in the fight against the Gods. They wished to restore peace and harmony but peace can't be archived through war, and so the war raged on.

The Clans

Kamison
The Kamison wear a black headband.
The Kamison are mainly made up of Gods. They are fighting to wipe out the Demigods but are also fighting back against the humans by trying to take over Nishikaku city which is owned by the Shinkin.

Hanshin
The Hanshin wear a red headband.
The Hanshin are mainly made up of Demigods. They are fighting against the Kamison in an attempt to get more priorities and respect from everyone. They often don't value human lives because they see themselves as being worth more.

Shinkin
The Shinkin wear a white headband.
The Shinkin are made up mainly of humans. They are fighting to protect their city (Nishikaku) and to restore the peace among the humans, Gods and Demigods.

The Samurai's Code
You Are Encouraged To Break These Codes!
• Do not kill anyone who surrenders.
• A man is not to harm a woman unless she is a threat to him or some-one else.
• Fight fair. Don't play dirty.
• If you instigate a fight then you are to stand and fight, not flee.
• Guns are a sign of weakness. "A sword is only as strong as the hand it's in."
• No-on gets left behind, help the injured, unless they volunteer to be left. (This is a sign of bravery.)
• Dying in combat is a brave honor.

Setting
Set in the past, there is no technology or modern clothes. Candle light is the only source of light. The city of Nishikaku is currently claimed and protected by the Shinkin clan. Swords and other hand weapons are most common and although guns do exist, they are uncommon.
Many of the townspeople are farmers or shopkeepers.

Personality:
To his friends and those on his side, Saito is charismatic and entertaining to be around, he loves to have a laugh and be social. He is often considered to be a bit of a fool but that's not to say he is a jerk. He has a sensitive and calm side that you only really see when he realizes you need a bit of TLC. But he can also often get into trouble for saying things he shouldn't, especially when it comes to the enemy. He likes to taunt them and wind them up, he can be quiet mischievous and often gets a little carried away with it at times. He is also a bit of a showoff and will not hesitate to gloat and try to show off to anyone willing to participate.

Backstory:
Growing up, Saito's family worked as part of the Hanshin clan, his farther was a blacksmith and his mother was a chef. It was Saito's family that were eager for their son to become a samurai and sent him to training. Saito was a good kid that never argued, but he also enjoyed learning skills and embraced his change to become a samurai. Saito was never very good at working with a sword or bo staff but he excelled when it came to long distance combat. When only twelve years old, Saito's family was killed in a raid in the village. At the time Saito had been away with a training squad in the mountains learning survival skills, he only learnt they had died when he came back.

Personality:
Quiet and mysterious really sums up Sin the best. He really doesn't appear to be all that social as he doesn't dive into social occasions with the others. Even mealtimes are a private affair for him. Although not a regular for group activities, he is loyal to his work and rarely fails at completing his missions. He it both respected for his work but also shunned for his mysteries.

Backstory:
Very little is known about Sin, he simply just showed up one day and worked his way into the Shinkin order. When questioned about his past, Sin will always act defensively as if he has some-thing to hide or as if talking about it is too painful for him to recall upon.

Physical Description

Kenji has an average stature, standing at roughly 170 centimeters (about 5.5 feet). He's well build, and muscular through his torso and arms though he remains very lean. He's strong, but prefers to rely on his speed rather than brute strength. He has an unusual fighting style for a samurai because of his slightly superior speed - instead of facing an enemy head-on, Kenji usually darts to his enemies least guarded side and strikes.

His hair is black and extends slightly past his neck. It's just long enough to put into a short ponytail, although his bangs aren't quite long enough to fit into the ponytail so they have a tendency to fall into his eyes. He has a small, vertical scar at the corner of his left eyebrow, which stands out against his lightly tanned skin. He sports numerous other scars on his torso as well, but they can't be seen unless he removes his shirt. His eyes are a dark gray, almost to the point of appearing black if viewed from a slight distance. His clothing is a well-worn, slightly frayed hakama. The top is black and short-sleeved while the pants are a light gray.

Digging Deeper

Personality: Kenji, in daily life, is a very by-the-book man - you could think of him as a very traditional samurai. He's the type that's usually twenty minutes early to any appointment, follows the commands of his superiors without question, and values loyalty and courage beyond all else. He's rather staid, keeping any true thoughts and feelings completely to himself. Kenji gives proper respect to those higher in command and in return expects to be treated well himself.

Kenji is almost always level-headed... Except in the midst of battle against a god or demigod. It's in these moments that the fiery personality he keeps hidden under lock and key breaks out of its box. You can then see him with a devilish smile, and a fire in his eyes that almost borders on insanity as he fights the enemies in front of him as if it is a game. The closer he is to death, the more fired up he becomes.

Backstory:

Kenji grew up in a farming village on the outskirts of of Nishikaku. However, when he was still just a boy, a fight between the Gods and Demigods destroyed the land and the people in it. Kenji managed to flee with his younger sister, and the two hid in the mountains. They drifted around for nearly a year before finding another small village that resembled their original home. The people there welcomed them, and they happily resided in the village for quite some time. It was here that Kenji first began to learn swordsmanship from a local dojo.

However, the peace of the village came to an end. Once again, war broke out and amidst the fray of powers from the demigods and gods, Kenji and his sister were separated. By some miracle, he managed to survive once again, but was in a state of utter despair afterwards. He lost the will to live and would have rotted away had an officer of the Shinkin not found him. After learning that the Shinkin fought to restore some sort of piece to the world, Kenji regained the will to live on. He picked himself up, brushed off the dust of his past, and began to wield his sword with the vision of a new world.

He has now fought with the Shinkin for roughly ten years.

One, two, three. Takumi Saito sat upon the creaky wooden steps leading up to his room while he threw knives at the stagnant target. It didn't feel like practice to him, an standing target was no challenge for him and he never missed. He was bored, there had been no action in days and he was growing restless. Getting to his feet, he walked over to receive his knives from the target and retire to his practice to go find some-thing to occupy his stomach.

Bowing his head as he excited the breakfast room with a tray in hand, he briefly took a step back behind the closed doors and let out a small sigh. Sin had never been much for being around people, he kept to himself and would never show how he really looked, not even to the higher ups. People often speculated that Sin was hiding some-thing but he was always quick to correct them, most just believed it was because he was a God siding with the humans and fighting against the humans that made him feel so isolated, but no-one could know for sure.

His green eyes trailed the ground as he began walking back towards his room. His bright green eyes were the only revelation of who he was, he dressed in full black with his hair and mouth covered. A white band tied tight around his head, clearly stated what team he supported, apart from that, Sin was a mystery.

(XD Compared to some applications I've seen on other sites, mine hardly qualifies as anything, but thanks for the compliment. ^^
Oh, and a quick question; with the Samurai Champloo picture at the top, my mind immediately jumped to an Edo-period setting, but I figure I should check before I describe something incorrectly.)

Swish. Swish. Time and time again Kenji swung his katana, fighting an invisible enemy. In his mind's eye, the building in which he resided in had faded away, replaced with a blood-stained battle field. In his illusionary world, the life of himself and his opponent was on the line. Lunging to the side, Kenji "cut" through the right side of his enemy's torso where the armor was weak. In his imagination, the man fell and Kenji moved onto the next. Again and again he cut, spun around, lunged forward, and cut again.

It was the grumbling of his stomach that finally brought Kenji back to reality. He wiped the sweat off of his brow with the back of his hand, and turned to look up at the sky. Like clockwork, he started his exercises every morning just when the sky was beginning to gray. When he realized the time, the sun had fully risen over the horizon and the pinkish glow of the early morning had almost completely faded. Kenji took a deep breath of the still-cold morning air and released it in a deep sigh before sheathing his sword and walking back inside the building to find some sort of breakfast.

I'm not entirely sure what the Edo-period is however going by the time period I would say that is right. There is no technology and it's pretty old fashioned. ))

The Black Reaper
Walking back towards his room, Sin hesitated as he glanced over to see some-one, Kenji, was out practicing. He found it interesting to watch the others practice, it was nice to see how everyone had their own styles, some-thing he found could some-day be rather useful. Watching Kenji practice some-what reminded himself of how he used to train so hard before becoming a commander, not that he didn't practice, but he didn't always need to practice so hard.

Realizing he was holding his gaze for too long, he shook his head slightly and returned to watching forward. He reached his room and entered, closing the door before behind him and removing his headdress and cloak. Sin sat down on the ground on his knees and closed his hand as if on instinct to prey to thank them for food when he hesitated, they didn't deserve his praise.

(Edo period was the era of Japan when the Tokugawa shogunate ruled, and it seems to be when a lot of samurai anime are based, if you watch those. Although the age of samurai lasted from the 1100s up to 1890s. Very little actually changed in these 700+ years as far as technology goes because Japan had declared themselves isolationists and weren't influenced by the industrialization of western countries. Whoops, that was long. Sorry. XP)

As Kenji moved back toward the building, he felt someone gazing at him. Turning to the side, Kenji caught the eyes of the commander. Immediately, he sunk into a respectful bow. Although proper, the movement was slightly stiff. Even after all this time, Kenji still couldn't bring himself to fully trust the man - well, god. Why would a higher being like a god fight against his own kind and with the lower humans? Kenji's mind naturally jumped to the worst possible scenarios such as destroying the group from within, although there was absolutely no base for such an accusation. Hurriedly pushing the thoughts from his mind, Kenji straightened his back and continued on into the building in search of food.

Looking around the building that housed the warriors, it was obvious that it was lacking a woman's tender touch and care. The lower warriors like himself kept the wooden floors cleaned and replaced the rice paper on the sliding doors when they had the chance, but it still looked rather ragged and unkempt. Moving to the kitchen, Kenji found one pot of stew, thrown together with whatever the others could scavenge from the small garden outside, sitting on dying embers of a fire. The food had already been attacked by most of the other warriors so little of it remained now. Scraping the bottom of the iron pot, Kenji took a ladle-full, plopped it into the small bowl and wolfed it down in several famished gulps.
