((This is loosely based on Undertale, but you don't need to know anything about the game to join this and understand it))

Monsters and humans have fought for centuries. Nobody really questions it- it's just a part of life. But on the night of a full, red moon, ten children were born; four monsters, and four humans. Unknown to their parents, and indeed to themselves, these eight were connected to each other by a fate yet to be seen. But will they be able to accept their destinies? Or will the hatred of an entire race consume them? Ten years later, these children will decide the fate of the world.

⋲…The Plot…⋺

Monsters and humans have been fighting longer than anyone can remember, and it's probably not too inaccurate to say that nobody really knows why anymore. Either way, humans are attacking monsters on sight, while monsters are incredibly defensive of their borders and distrust humans. Ten children, who are only aged ten themselves, however, will turn the tides of this endless battle. But no prophecy could tell anyone how, exactly. Could they bring peace? Or escalate it into a war to destroy one race or the other?

The world of monsters and humans is kind of like the one you're probably used to, but with a few key differences!

Magic is a thing, and it is relatively common, though not so common that everyone can use it; spellcasters are looked at in the same way as a skilled warrior or craftsman- someone who is just doing what they're talented at. The ten children are unique because their powers are potentially far more powerful than any seen before, and more varied and unique.

The human world is about technologically equal with Eldemore's civilizations. People live in typically two-story buildings, use candle and gas light, and wield swords and other pre-gunpowder weaponry. The most complex and expensive to get weapon is a crossbow- the cheapest, a short-sword or dagger. Roads in larger towns are paved but those in smaller towns often aren't. Magic is also commonly used to enhance things, from using light manipulation to turn something from red to blue or fire magic to create enchanted logs that only light at the homeowner's will.

The monster world is, on the outside, mostly desolate badlands, and is frequented by raging storms and other bad weather. Most monsters live in a mountain that the humans call "Dread Mountain", because of its resemblance to a horned beast in silhouette. However, most monsters just call it "Home", as monsters aren't much for names. Monsters are magically-attuned beings, with magical souls, but oddly enough do not use a lot of magic themselves. Monster magic is usually much more subtle than human magic, and is usually based in emotions. Monster homes tend to be carved into the mountain, and only a few of them actually live on the outer edge with windows. There are much fewer monsters than humans, and monsters are all very close to one another, and tend to act as one large family. They are about as technologically advanced as humans, but notably do not have many weapons.

⋲…How do Powers Work?…⋺

...You may be asking. Well, powers for the first pair are pretty straight forward- they can bend elements of the world, from fire to shadow to lightning, as long as they're opposing powers to their intertwined monster/human. So, one could have fire, light, and earth elemental magic, and the other could have water, shadow, and electric, as long as they don't overlap and no one person controls both halves of a set(ie, having both water and fire magic on one person). If you aren't sure, put a (?) next to an ability, and I'll tell you if it's okay.

For the others, however, it's all up to interpretation. What is chaos? If you had the power of "chaos", what do you think that would mean? And with the silence/expression and /emotion/logic pairs, it's mostly their personalities that are affected. But if you were going to make a power based on that, what would it be? Get creative, think outside the box- they don't have to be magical powers! The last pair- nature/mechanical- is the least magical, so many would think they're the weakest, but perhaps they have some other ability that has little or nothing to do with magic?

⋲…What do Monsters Look Like?…⋺

That is a very important question that I am ashamed of myself for not answering at all in the other posts. Monsters can look like basically anything, but they usually just look like animals that walk and talk like people. Of course, some are more like humans in appearance, and others really are animals, while others still look simply alien. You are free to make your monsters look like anything you want, but remember- they're not humans, and they shouldn't look exactly like one.

1~ Replies must be semi-literate. A response should be at least one paragraph, and a paragraph should be at least four sentences. An ideal post should cover at least 4 lines at normal text size, and more is always better.
2~ Replies should have good grammar and spelling. I understand that we all make typos, but try to stay as correct as possible.
3~ All the rules of Eldemore RP forums apply. Ream 'em, know 'em, follow 'em.
4~ Relationships can be intimate, but remember the ages of the characters. A ten year-old would probably not be very interested in anything beyond a kiss, and even then. Adult characters can go beyond, but I expect you to fade to black if anything 'sexy' happens. This is not supposed to be a graphic roleplay.
5~ Violence may or may not happen, but if it does use discretion in describing it. This isn't supposed to be a gory story.
6~ Monsters should have fairly obvious traits- cat ears and tails are basically a minimum, so yes neko-type characters are allowed, but it's encouraged that you go beyond.
7~ Do not godmod, power play, or otherwise steal control of someone else's character. Likewise, be fair in interactions. You cannot catch every deer, and you cannot dodge every attack.

Quercus is a tree creature with bark for skin. They stand at fifteen feet in height, and have long, spindly limbs. They have a good range of movement; their skin is made of thick bark almost like armor, with gaps between the plates that allow it to move. Underneath the bark, there is nothing but vines, that work like muscle. They cannot eat, and have no need to; they simply photosynthesize. They are brown, and pale green leaves grow on the branches that crown their head and shoulders. The leaves change color in the fall and the branches are bare in the winter. They flower, growing dangling strands of yellow-white buds, in the spring. They have beady black eyes within the weathered bark of their face, which hold a surprising warmth.
The appearance I'm going for here is somewhat like Groot, from Guardians of the Galaxy, if anyone's having trouble picturing them.
Personality:
Quercus is quite a benign monster, with a strong sense of compassion and curiosity. They are very trusting, and trustworthy in return. They always believe the best of everyone. They appoint themselves a guardian of their friends and allies, assuming it as their duty to care for them, watch over them, and heal them. Quercus enjoys leaving their home to observe the humans, for they're quite fascinated by things they do not see often and do not understand. They are not mute, but do not speak often simply by choice. Their voice is deep and sonorous when they do decide to talk.
Power?:
Quercus wields nature magic. They can communicate with and influence ordinary trees, and harness the life-force of living things to heal injuries and cure sicknesses.
Weakness:
Quercus is greatly weakened anywhere plants do not flourish. They will constantly seem feeble and tired; the same goes for when they are in the dark for a long period of time. Light for them is like food.
Other:
Haven't played undertale, so sorry if any of this flies in the face of established lore! Also, I may make a human character too, but probably won't unless we have a shortage of them.

((Ah, they're fine more Groot is always good This doesn't strictly follow Undertale, it's just loosely inspired by the idea of 'monsters/not-humans vs humans' with little known about why. And moral decisions, but those can be harder to do in an RP. I assume they are just a regular monster, and not one of the ten children? Although being a tree-person, there's probably some workaround with aging there, if they are supposed to be. Ten year-old trees are usually not very big. ))

Appearance/Image: She has dark brown hair. It might shine if there wasn't so much grease constantly smeared into it. It's normally pulled back into a ponytail that falls mid-back. Her skin is tanned, enough to question whether she has a latino base or she just spends all of her time in the sun. Her eyes are a dark, dark brown. They appear black at most times until she stares directly into a light. She's tall for her age, 5'0. She's very thin with agile fingers and sharp pointy appendages. She mostly wears a pair of grubby brownish pants and a grease stained shirt. If she's not barefoot, she's in a pair of strap on leather sandals. She sports a pair of roughed-up leather gloves.
Personality: Blunt. She really doesn't hide what she feels towards someone. She's normally distracted thinking about some new gadget she can try to tinker up. She also appreciates simple and to the point conversations. She doesn't like 30 words where 3 could fit.
Power?:Intrinsic knowledge of the inter workings of things. She would have internal knowledge of how things fit together and work; from gears to the internal structures of living beings.
Weakness:Rock, anything too solid, or any undead, unmoving (even the living dead).
Other:I don't know the game either, but it seems pretty awesome!
