[Startedraining]

Sphye and Startedraining's personal short-term roleplay thread. This can and will probably include traveling, arguments, heart to heart talks and of course "character building".

[Sphye]

Long, summer-golden grass swayed in the wind. The buzzing of chatty cicadas and a myriad of hiding runes faded as the thick, tall trees of the edges of the Endless Forest became farther and farther away.
How strange, Mara mused, her short, cherrywood-colored hair bouncing as she walked, that two weeks can pass so quickly and take so long simultaneously.
The events of their trip to Alabaster-- "their" being Edgar's and hers, as well as any few others who had apparently deceived by Sullivan --had only just come to a close, and the thin rune bearer still didn't know if she could believe it all.

"So," she said, breaking the relative silence compared to the constant noise of the large city, "We joined a cult, I think. How do you feel about having accidentally joined a cult?"

[Startedraining]

Edgar blinked lazily as he walked, his shoulder bag slung over his shoulder. The small glacier drake inside was keeping him cool from the heat of the sun.

"The cult we joined is fabled to be magical and less obnoxious than it actually is," his words on the matter stopped there for a moment, "but I like to think that they liked us enough to not only let us live, but to let us join them. It feels like a dream, you know?" he looked at her and smiled a really, really crooked smile. How did his face even crook that much?

"I'm excited for the return journey, I've never been on this trail before. I've flown over but I've never walked in these forests."

[Sphye]

Mara nodded as she listened.
"Yeah, but, like, we accidentally joined a cult," she repeated, emphasizing her words. "Not that I'm complaining about little soulbirb," she said, gesturing to her satchel were the small, permanently-stained egg was resting, "but, yeah. Accidental cults. Impressive."
Mara's eyes scanned the ground, searching for anything noteworthy as she followed a few steps behind the giant of a red-head that was Edgar.
"Mm-hmm," she agreed to his latter statement. "I've been near here, but never through this exact route," she said, thinking back. "Or it might have been closer to Silverport than Alabaster. I don't know. I guess we'll find out," she said, mumbling at this point.

"I don't think we'll get lost though," Edgar reassured her, even though she was probably more confident in her on-foot-traveling abilities than he was in his.

"I know that there are a lot of small villages around here. Best we steer clear of a few of them, I think there might be some Drake Hunters around them," he worried for the small defenseless drake in his bag.

He turned around to walk backwards, so he was facing the shorter Mara. "Listen, did I ever tell you that I carve totem poles?" He beamed widely.

[Sphye]

"Noted," she said. "No small villages for the sake of tiny fat reptile. Gotcha."
From one of her satchel pockets popped a small, orange rune's head, wide purple eyes blinking in the light before looking toward their bearer questioningly.
"Not you, Daria," she clarified, laughing. "The other tiny-fat."

"Hmm, you've mentioned it, I think," she responded, eying his feet. "Don't twist an ankle," she warned, the bumpy road-- more of a path than anything, really-- ever-changing beneath her.

[Startedraining]

"Yes, I do. My parents made smaller statues while I was growing up, and soon I got too impatient to deal with really small details like them, so I started carving really big statues, and then totem poles. I have some around my land in the Isles, have you seen any?"
Edgar jabbered on, hardly listening to her warning about the bumpy road. His foot sank into a small indent, and he jerked back into attention, managing to not fall and regain balance. He chuckled at himself.

"Do you make anything?"

[Sphye]

"I waaarned you," she said, offering a hand to help the falling Egg catch his balance.

"That's neat. I don't really make much," she said, kicking a small stone to the side. "Well, nah, I can make mistakes with the best of 'em," she amended jokingly, giving a somewhat forced laugh. What better way to distract from inadequacy than with humour, right?

"Oh come on, you must be able to make something cool," Edgar grabbed her hand and did that swinging cliche couple thing, "At least do you try to make things? You may be better at them than you know."

Clouds began to appear on the horizon. White, innocent clouds that looked like candy. Edgar frowned in their general direction, worried for a moment about a storm.

[Sphye]

Mara laughed slightly. "I can't do anything better than anyone else, it doesn't count," she reasoned, rubbing the back of her head nervously. Maybe she was being too hard on herself, but maybe she was just being realistic. Better not to make anyone expect more than you could deliver, right?

She followed the drake-keeper's gaze curiously. "What is it?" she asked, unsure as to what he had seen.
