Do me a favor: don't steal a single thing from this thread. I mean, anything - images, descriptions, concepts...just don't. It's frustrating/insulting to me and only makes you look like a thief who lacks creativity. I will find you - and if I don't, someone else will - and we will report you. Thank you for your cooperation!

Humans
Image

-----------------------------------------
Name: Sophie LeClaire; "Dear One" to Delyth, "Rider" to Silvanus
Gender: Female
Age: 24 years
Nationality or place of origin: Sophie hails from Alabaster City, in the middle-class neighborhood.
Current place of residence: Tuldaringa, a middle-sized town north of Alabaster City, located on the edge of the Celtlands by the ocean.

Appearance: Picture - oldie but a goodie.

She stands about 5'7", with a fairly athletic build - but certainly not a gymnast or a body-builder, ohhhh no. Her strawberry-blonde hair is kept at just past her shoulders, all one length, and often tied back with a band of some sort. She prefers to keep it from her face. Her face is somewhat heart-shaped with higher cheekbones and hazel-gold eyes hid behind red-framed glasses. It's a face that manages to be pretty only if you stare at it for more than a moment; you really couldn't pull it out on the street in passing. She prefers practical clothing and is often found in jeans, a weather-appropriate shirt, walking boots, and a dark-blue weather-proof coat with many pockets. The coat has a large hood so she can wear her hair back inside it. She would be loathe to part with the tan hiking backpack always found on or nearby her.

Personality:

Sophie is a young lady who you'd probably get along with unless something about her bothered you; in which case, she'd drive you nuts because she's more at ease with herself than most people are. She accepts that she is who she is and won't change unless absolutely necessary.
When working on something or at her job, she becomes intently focused. Sure, she'll take a moment to address you and maybe consult with you about a problem if you have one, but there will be a point where you realize that she did stop listening to you about five minutes back. If given too many tasks, she's almost perfect about completing them all, but will inevitably forget something. This makes her feel quite guilty and she'll do her best to make up for her mistakes, since she does her best to avoid making them. If they are mistakes she caused, expect them to never happen again. If they are mistakes you caused and she has to clean up the mess, well...let's just say you get a rather icy wall of contempt. Especially if you flew in the face of common sense. Logic is one of her best friends.
When not working on a task and relaxing, you'll find her quite amiable and even dryly amusing in her choice of humor. She'll be working on making herself comfortable or making others happy, whatever suits her plans most at the moment. She has a bit of a sweet tooth, so chocolate will generally factor into the equation. She likes to be on the side-lines in any sort of social gathering, influencing but not being directly involved. In a council meeting, she would rather listen and give advice after a long period of patient thought. Impulsiveness, unless logical, earns a sharp response from her. She prefers plans that work, not plans that might work unless they stand a good chance of working.
Her being half-deaf influenced her basic personality quite a bit. She has a deep empathy for anyone with any form of a handicap and prefers her relationships to be meaningful, not brief. This means her circle of friends is rather small, but loyal. She is hypersensitive to being mocked due to her hearing loss and while she has learned to hide it well over the years, it isn't wise to earn a spot on her black list. Sure, she'll treat you like a human being, but that's about it; you've lost most of her respect.

Skills and weaknesses:

Skills:
- The ability to read and write, which can become very useful in certain situations.
- The ability to sketch and manipulate images in her mind.
- The ability to read into body language and read lips from a distance. She can figure out how to blend into a crowd by watching how everyone interacts.
- Strong mental communication skills with her Ancient and Elkrin.

Failings:
- Not so hot with arithmetic. Math definitely drives her nuts.
- Half-deaf; without Delyth and Silvanus around, she would make a horrible guard and probably scare herself half to death jumping at imagined noises.
- Being incredibly sensitive to any form of negative commentary about her hearing.
- Can't see too well without her glasses either.

Skills and/or weaknesses acquired from companion:

Skills:
- Telepathy with both Delyth and Silvanus
- The ability to sing in a very soothing way. So soothing, others might fall asleep...immediately...
- Silvanus, being an Elkrin, influences her appearance every time she rides. Her facial features become fine and softened and silvery streaks appear within her hair; her hazel-gold eyes gain a silver ring around the outside. Her normal clothing is replaced by a soft leather riding outfit in blue-grey with designs akin to the natural markings on Silvanus. Her belt is adorned with tiny bells, much like the ones that hang on Silvanus's antlers, and they ring softly when she rides.

Weaknesses:
- Sensitive to the moods and physical changes in her Ancient and Elkrin. If one was to be injured, she would feel it, albeit not as sharply as the real wound. If one died...who knows how she would fare.

History:

Basic:

Sophie was blessed to have been born into a family of a high-middle-class standing and therefore received what was considered to be a proper education, according to her parents: reading, writing, basic arithmetic, geography, painting and some science. She wasn't spoiled, not at all. Her parents believed in basic equality and fairness. She was also born half-deaf. Being an only child, she spent much of her time amusing herself while her friends were busy and this influenced her basic personality (along with her hearing loss). It didn't take long for her to become interested in the one thing that she had been deprived of in her learning: biology. It wasn't uncommon to find her immersed in a book about the life of domesticated animals. It took her many years, until she was about 20 or so, to come across the Rune Dragons in person and bond to Delyth (as a Rune Dragon, not an Ancient Rune). She bonded to the Silvervale Elkrin stag Silvanus when she was older, around 23.

During the Purge:

When the man "Hubris" came to power, her parents would talk late into the night about things they felt Sophie wasn't old enough to hear. It took Delyth in order for her to finally figure out that the Cutters were now going to house to house within miles of their neighborhood and separating the "abominations" from their "possessed". Her parents smugged her outside of the city and set her free with her travel pack to find the rebels and their cottage.

They found the cottage, joined the rebel group, and spent most of the Purge fighting on the fringes, helping to turn battle tides in favor of the Rune Dragons and their Bonded. Sophie was never directly responsible for the deaths of any Cutters, but Delyth...her powers were eerily growing during this time and more than once, a Cutter fell asleep never to awaken.

After the Purge:

After the Purge had ended and the Cutters had scattered, Sophie was left adrift for a time. Her focus, for so long, had been fighting against the destruction of the ones she loved and saving those who couldn't defend themselves. It took some gentle nudging from Delyth to convince her to travel north, farther away still from the dark memories of Alabaster City, and into the Celtlands. There, she found a job as an apprentice veterinarian in the middle-sized town of Tuldaringa, located along the ocean. She sees mostly normal house pets in the forms of dogs, cats, hamsters, parakeets, etc, etc. Very rarely does she see a Rune Dragon and she is known as the "technician to go to" when they have a problem. Delyth aids her in keeping the distressed Rune calm while she takes the stats and waits for the veterinarian to come help. Silvanus chooses to be absent during her work hours. The people of Tuldaringa (and the Celtlands in general) were mostly untouched by the shadow of the Purge and blessedly accept the Runes for what they are: charmingly odd miracles.

Meeting Delyth:

Sophie was in her early 20's and it was another year or two before the Purge.
She had been up late reading during the summer and while the sun was still just above the horizon, as it always is during those sultry evenings, she was bored enough to take her book-related musings out to her window-ledge. The window had been always easy to open and it let in peaceful wafts of warmed grass along with pine needles. It took her a moment, so deep in her daydreaming was she, to hear the whuffling of feathered wings. She had time to throw her arms up across her body before the Rune landed on her windowsill with a soft, vibrating chirp-like sound. It only took a second for their eyes to meet before Sophie realized that Delyth wanted to be with her - she had been lonely for so long, looking for something, no - someone to understand her. What deeply bonded her to Delyth the most was the Rune's solemn promise to be her ears as well as her shadow. With all of her heart, Sophie had been wanting a friend who understood and accepted her handicap without judgment and the Sunset Rune filled her heart to overflowing.

*** Her bonding with Silvanus is described below, in his section.

-----------------------------------------

Name: Matteo Fitzpatrick Marchand, "Boss" to Fitzroy
Gender: Male
Age: 25
Nationality or place of origin: Alabaster City
Current place of residence: On the road for each new job that comes along, but he stays nearby Alabaster City unless necessary.

Appearance:

Just under 6’2” with a body that leaned out once he decided to become the leader of his little gang. He has scruffy brown-blonde hair with natural highlights from the sun and grey eyes; chin-strap beard/goatee on face. You can see that his muscles are wiry, so he’s not a body builder. Once he entered his gang years, he lost his clean-cut look to build up his reputation. He wears a dark-brown jacket lined with cream-colored sheep’s wool that zips up the front. Dark pants are always worn, but he hates how they’re almost worn bare in both knees. He wears a hand-me-down pair of military boots that he “borrowed” from an open window-sill. Both ears are pierced up the outside multiple times; his left ear is missing a piece from it where a rival’s bullet just barely missed the rest of his head and if he ever took off his jacket and shirt, you’d see some bullet scars on his left arm. He always wears a newsboy cap, whether it’s warm or not, to hide his ear. His money pouch/small bag is always at his belt.

Personality:

Matteo is the second oldest of five children altogether within the Marchand family. His personality leans towards the type of attention-getter that succeeds and then annoys you a bit. It stems from being shuffled to the side once his younger siblings came about. He talks a bit louder than necessary and you can’t ignore him in a room even when he’s standing still and just listening; he exudes presence. Within a discussion, he must say what he’s thinking, whether you like it or not. He tends to ignore most insults that come about from his input, but only to a point. If you ask him to do something, he might do it; tell him to and he’ll passively ignore you. When he’s in action, he will get the job done regardless of the body count. He has an innate way of succeeding at his task, but it gives him a merciless feel when he accepts that people will get hurt. However, he’s fully aware of every death he had any part in and wishes that he could forget them all; it gives him night sweats. He doesn't like deep relationships, but it’s that kind of denial where it’s a slippery slope and suddenly he’s your best friend and he’ll do anything to protect you. Within his group of friends, he becomes a pretty cool “big brother” type.

Skills and weaknesses:

Skills:
- He's good at setting up little traps and destroying things “accidentally” with explosives and fire.
- He's fairly good at math and geography.
- He can cook fairly well, since he has to feed himself when he's traveling between jobs.

Weaknesses:
- A huge ego that masks his "needy feelings"; one gets easily ignored with multiple siblings.
- Since he has a spotty attendance record for schooling, he has trouble writing.
- He forgets to return things he “borrowed” and can never throw anything away because “it could be useful”.
- He's gun-shy because of his ear. Anyone wielding that weapon could scare him into submission.
- He's impulsive if it means he can “win” in any manner. He also can’t stand “immaturity”.

Skills and/or weaknesses acquired from companion:

When he's riding Fitzroy, his garb becomes more along the lines of dressage. Riding jacket and pants in royal blue with bronze trimmings, knee-high boots in coal-black. His grey eyes become more sea-green, like the shadows of an iceberg. He sits taller, his shoulders are broader, and an air of nobility encircles him. The only thing that doesn't change is his newsboy cap, which gives him away every time. It has something to do with a "stutter" in Fitzroy's Elkrin magic; maybe he'll outgrow it...?

History:

Matteo comes from a rather large family with four other siblings, so he has worked since he was rather young to keep everyone fed. While many other children grow up spending most of their day in school, it was rather rare for Matteo to spend more than a few hours with his nose in a book before he was excused to go to his job; well, he didn’t necessarily have his nose in his book, but at least he was present and accounted for. He had a penchant for getting yelled at over anything else, but his teacher was happy with his math and geography skills.
Matteo has held many random jobs throughout the years, including accountant, assistant chef, concierge, chimney sweeper, cat sitter, and shoe seller. The easiest, by far, is unemployed-but-looking, because that means he can go out and check his traps in the woods. They tend to put more food on his family’s table than some of his jobs. His favorite, however, was working in the weapons factory putting together all sorts of devious devices. It was there that he discovered his love of explosives and basically playing with matches. It has come in very handy during problematic situations with the rival gangs.

He bonded with Fitzroy when the Crowned Cavalier Elkrin stag tore loose from his handler on the streets of Alabaster City. The stag had been up for auction (his personality wasn't good for their breeding program...too "lively") and had been frightened by the barking of a nearby guard dog. Matteo had beaten the stag around a corner and grabbed the lead rope to slow down the lathered creature. When they made eye contact, something clicked inside both of them and despite the initial shock all around, the noble family officially acknowledged the Bonding. Well...they did it after Fitzroy kicked some teeth from the mouth of his handler trying to get back to Matteo.

Rune Dragons
Image

-----------------------------------------
Name: Delyth, human form - "Twila Argall"
Gender: Chooses to be female
Age: Ancient
Species: Ancient Rune
Type: Sunset

Appearance:
Image
Delyth is as beautiful as her picture above. In her Ancient form, she looks exactly as such.
If she chooses to take human form, this picture shows her appearance.

Personality:
Delyth, being the Ancient of Sunsets, understands that all good things must come to an end - but that ending can be delayed and it can be beautiful. She is unfailingly realistic and can swing between optimism and fatalism, depending on the circumstances. She is always frank and it hurts at times, but she knows that life is never fair and acceptance is the key to peace. She is confident in herself and her abilities; this gives her an aura of peace that is unconsciously felt by all living things. It ebbs in strength, just like the sunlight as clouds pass by, but it's always there and always warm.

To Sophie, she is an older sister/mother figure. She loves Sophie, but not in a romantic sense. She prefers to sit back and let Sophie make her own decisions as she can protect her Bearer from the backlash of any stupidity. Due to her age, she has more patience than most when it comes to human error and all the wonderful flaws of their souls. Sophie is the perfect Bearer for Delyth because the young woman doesn't know how she acts as a tuning instrument/reservoir for the Ancient's powers. Delyth is all about gentle control and they work so well as a pair that Sophie has never felt a "power surge" within her.

Delyth has never shared with anyone how she walks a fine line as the Sunset Ancient in terms of morality. She chooses to be on the side of Light, but very easily, with one twisted event, she could fall into the pitch of the Dark side. She could become "as beautiful and terrible as the dawn, treacherous as the sea".

As an Ancient, Delyth has terrible powers. I mean, terrifying. She loathes physically attacking enemies, but those talons and her hidden teeth are lethal. Don't let those wispy wings fool you either. She gives off the impression of peaceful lassitude, like a summer evening, but danger always lurks in the deepening shadows at sunset. As the Ancient of Sunset, she has control over aspects of that twilight time, including:
- Sleeping patterns. She can cause you to nap or...never wake up.
- Dwindling light. She can't really create light, but she can manipulate shadows and suck away light. Cloaking in shadows is one of her favorite tricks.
- The Green Flash. That last bit of sunlight on the very edge of the world can be controlled and focused to create a blinding wave of light. Great for escapes.
- Fear. Her most elemental power is to destroy others from within. The approach of darkness will always cause each of us to quaver inside and she can slip her talons into this feeling; it spreads like ink inside your mind until you're reduced to a shivering heap of tears and uselessness.

History:

Before the Pact:

Delyth spent a good portion of her life as a normal Rune Dragon, albeit an old one. Her origins are somewhere within the Silver Sands Desert, but the civilization she once knew has since been scoured from the earth itself. She had traveled far and wide over the vast expanse of Eldemore for at least two centuries, much longer than your average Rune, and knew that she needed to find someone before her heart gave out. This Rune had an old soul; somehow, deep inside, Delyth knew that she needed to Bond and preserve what her soul secretly held. When she flew to Sophie's window on the fateful evening, she knew that she had finally found her Bearer.

A Loving Pact:

'Aeternam crepusculum - nobis aeternam vinculum'
These were the words that Sophie cried out, in her darkest hour when Delyth had seemingly passed on, at the exact moment of the Green Flash - the last ray of sunlight of the day. Delyth was resurrected as the Ancient of Sunset and their loving pact was complete.

Phaedrus - Grasslands Rune

Image
Age:
Young Adult
Personality:
This baby boy is the offspring of Razi + Delyth. While his appearance seems to take after his father, his actual coloring's are that of a sunset casting it's last glow across the grasslands. His fur blends in perfectly with the golden stalks of wheat or lush fields, and his eyes are a stunning sharp green. He was even given his own bead to carry that was passed down from his father and now wears it protectively on his ear. He will not allow anyone to touch it and holds the purple bead in high regards. Some details of his markings consist of grass-like stalks which flow elegantly across his plush fur and tail. This little boy loves to rise with the sun and plays all day till it sets at night. He has also taken the habit from his mother to always make sure to tell the sun goodbye before it sets over the horizon, and waits eagerly for it's return. A carefree and spirited young rune, this little guy seems to be more relaxed and easy going then some of the other hatchlings but definitely has his moments of being mischievous.

Summanus - Spark Rune

Image
Age:
Young Adult
Personality:
Summanus (or "Manny", as he would be nicknamed) is a Rune that needs a job. Now, the job just needs to be defined, as it could be either very helpful or very annoying. For example, he could be busy changing all of the light bulbs in your house when they begin to flicker, since he had an innate sense for finding nearly-dead wires. Or he could be dancing around on your rooftop, causing lightning bolts to be striking all over your shingles. It takes a human with a sense of humor in order to live comfortably with him. Once he zeroes in on a task, expect it to get done. You could say that he has an "on" and an "off" switch, as he's either running around doing things or sleeping like the dead. Very few things manage to slow him down, but the one thing that scares him is water, especially anything that holds water. He fell into a barrel of water in an alley once as a baby Rune and in his panic, he tried zapping away the water. It didn't work and his electricity store was so low that he almost drowned. His flock-mates fished him out, but he vows to have nothing to do with water beyond drinking it.

Muse - Henna Rune

Image
Age:
Young
Personality:
Muse is an inspirational Rune. Her ability is to bolster up the sad and support the joyful in the world. It makes her thrilled and she feels like her life is fulfilled when someone else smiles at her jokes or she can wrap a wing about them to console them. When she devotes so much of herself to making someone feel happy and fails, she becomes quite blue and mopes for a time. It does give her a bit of a pride complex when she does succeed and people refusing her help often become the victims of an affronted reaction.
History:
This particular Rune is very singular and came to be in a very special manner. In a corner of Eldamore, the land had become grey and dreary. Crops grew weakly under the bland sunshine and every manner of chore was done half-heartedly. Even the music had become quite ho-hum. At night, the moon refused to shine and for one child in particular, this was enough to merit a focused effort to solve whatever problem was plaguing the land. He would sit in his window at night and stare up at the muted stars, his little eyebrows scrunched together in a frown as he wondered what he could do. Even the other children were becoming slow, tired, unable to run about skipping and singing along with him. He was in the habit of writing up little short stories as his imagination struck and that evening, he decided to go to the sacred spring that the elders of the town revered as a source of life for the village. Maybe there was a spirit there that could help him out. Early the next morning, when all the world was still asleep and the misty dew clung to the grass, he slunk out of his house and jogged down the path to the spring. It was still so early that the sun hadn't risen yet and even most of the birds were still asleep. Sitting his little body down on the flat rock at the edge of the quietly-bubbling spring, he pulled out a crumpled piece of paper from his overalls and his youthfully hesitant voice broke the stillness.
"Um...excuse me, Mr. Spring Spirit - or Mrs... I don't really know. You see, there's something wrong with my family. My mom and dad are so sad and quiet now. My big sister won't play with me. Even my dog just sleeps all day. He used to play fetch, but...but now he doesn't and I want him back!" He knuckled at a tear that slid from his eye. "My friends are all sad too. They don't want to play either because it's cold all of the time. Can you please help me? I want to make everybody happy again...but I don't know how..." He sniffled and as he looked down at the paper, he missed the twinkling ripple that spread out from the spring's font. "I dreamed about this animal last night and it came from here, in the water. Please, it was so happy and everybody loved it. I can tell it to you and maybe you can make it real?" Clearing his throat, the little boy went on to describe the animal he had dreamt of. It was small and warm, brightly colored in shades of red and pink; it had soft feathers and glittering ruby-like eyes; when it opened its mouth, beautifully gentle notes filled the air and every other chirp it made was like laughter. As the boy read, the spring rippled more and more until a little blob of undulating water rose up into the air. "...and everywhere this animal went, it brought happiness." The little boy finished talking and looked up to see the gently pulsating globe of water. He gasped as it began to glow just as the sun rose over the far hill and blinded him. He threw up his hands in fright, forgetting all about the piece of paper; it floated gently down to the surface of the water and vanished in a swirl of sparkling twinkles. Like a living mist, the little lights spiraled up into the globe of water. When the little boy was brave enough to uncurl from the position he had taken, he was very surprised to see a little reddish Rune Dragon sitting not a foot from him. It tilted its head and when it opened its mouth, a chirp like a bell rang through the air. He couldn't help but smile and as he did so, the Rune mirrored him, her rubescent eyes glistening with joy. The little boy brought back the Rune to his village and that morning, the sun continued to rise in a sky devoid of clouds. Everyone came out of their houses in wonder and as they beheld the little creature that had saved them, things stirred in their souls. The writers felt the urge to grab their quills and write; the artists saw new beauty in things they saw every day; families began to laugh instead of quarrel; the scientists suddenly realized what piece of the equation had been missing; the farmers knew that they would have enough food to survive the long winter; and the little boy's dog burst out from his house to drop a ball at the boy's feet. With tears of happiness leaking from his eyes, he hugged the little Rune close to his heart and knew that everything would be okay now.

Genevieve - Flash Rune

Image
Age:
Young
Personality:
The weekend was coming up and I thought that I would take Muse and Summanus out on an expedition. Delyth wanted some quiet time and surprisingly enough, Phaedrus elected to stay home as well. This time, we didn't wander too far from home for multiple reasons, the main one being that I was wishing shortly that I had brought along leashes for the two Runes. Getting Muse and Summanus together is like mixing soda and mentos: explosive and amusing as long as it doesn't directly involve you. I was planning to look around a nearby glade in the forest that surrounded my house, one where I was certain I had seen signs of a wild Rune.
We did make it to the glade and we all paused to look around. I had one Rune on each shoulder and for a while, it was blissful. The ground was covered in a thick bed of moss, so soft that I kicked off my shoes and walked out onto it. The boulders were granite and sparkled in the dappled sunlight that pierced through the canopy of leaves. Small wildflowers grew where they could, in colors of ice-blue and butter-yellow. The breeze wasn't too cold or too warm. It was when I sat down that Summanus decided it was too quiet for him. Even Muse looked mildly disturbed at the raucous singing that seemed to send the leaves into shivers of disdain. A sharp whistle interrupted his song and something blurred into him with an audible WHUMP. Summanus was sent sprawling on the moss while the strange Rune I had suspected lived here now sat in his place, her fluffy ears laid back and body-length ruff standing on end.
Your singing is atrocious. Please cease and desist. Her voice echoed in my mind, steely soft in tone. Summanus was definitely offended, but seemed to know better than to challenge her, since she was larger than him. And you, human. That's my feather. I would like it back. Blinking, I reached up into the band of my hat and held out the feather to her. Taking it in her mouth, she lifted off with a quiet flutter of her wings and vanished into the canopy once more. Summanus hopped over to my lap and snuggled into it, feeling pitiful to himself while Muse chattered softly to him. I could tell she was consoling him. All of us flinched as the strange Rune landed on the boulder once more, looking much more happy. She was positively cute with those ears perked forwards. Would you mind if I stayed with you for a while? I've been watching you and you seem nice. Despite the grumbling protest from Summanus, I nodded. How could I resist those spots?
Genevieve has been with us for a week or two now and is still settling in. She likes her little bauble that she found out in the woods one day and I made her a collar that she could wear in order to show it off. As much as she didn't hit it off with Summanus at the start, I think they're getting to be better friends as each day goes back. You know...hold on a second...I think I heard something smash in the kitchen. ...never mind.

Ammolitia - Baby Tropical Rune

Image
Age:
Baby
Personality:
I envision her personality much like an intelligent hummingbird. Flighty, busy all of the time - it always seems like she's eating. I suppose I don't mind that my house is as bug-free as it is, but maybe I wanted to have butterflies in my garden, eh, Ammolitia?
...she just gave me the puppy-dog eyes.
She's the type of shy that makes you want to hold her close and cuddle her and protect her from the world, but that comes with a cost: a painful naivety that can be dangerous at times. She also acts somewhat spoiled at times and while she does get what she wants often, I think that she's realized (with time) that throwing a fit or acting out is far less likely to earn her any type of reward.
She has a special friendship with Delyth and it goes both ways. You can often find the two Runes together in my sunroom, just listening to quiet New Age music and enjoying the peace. Ammolitia is so small and Delyth is so much larger that it's a heart-warming sight.

~ Bright colors like her own plumage, but especially the color orange. Monarch butterflies are her absolute favorite bug to chase.
~ Mud puddles. There's something about the cool squish between her toes. Plus, I think she likes the oxymoron of having beautiful plumage covered in muck.

Dislikes:
~ Heavy winds, because she gets buffeted about.
~ Windows. She can't seem to figure out when they're open or closed and has run into them too many times. They're also a torture if she's stuck inside and can't get out.
~ Winter. Well, it's not that she truly dislikes it, but it eats at her to see the world go grey and lose its greenery. No bugs to hunt either!

.:Bejeweled:.

Call me a gem, a gem like no other -
Other stones may glimmer or shine, but I -
I breathe, sing sweetly and hummingly flutter -
Flutter into your heart and within it fly.

Fly with me now into the perfumed dark -
Dark night so warm, full of whispering noise -
Noise that mirrors such color and hark -
Hark at the radiant glow and high poise.

Poise that christens me brilliant at dawn -
Dawn brings clear view of my colors again -
Again you marvel, are impossibly drawn -
Drawn to me, your rainbow, your living gem.

Elkrin

Name: Silvanus
Gender: Male
Age: Adult
Species: Elkrin
Type: Silvervale, last of his kind

Appearance:

Silvanus is as shown above. He doesn't wear any tack...yet.

Personality:
Prickly is the first adjective I'd pick. He yearns for things that he cannot have, like his family and his once-mate. He holds onto useless memories and they get him through his sleeping, but only barely. Any other living creature he comes across makes him ache because the mist never pursues them - it only pursues him. He's coming to despise himself and he's of the opinion that he can make it through the world without help. The only being he can rely on is himself.
Despite the fact that he finds his existence almost sickening, there is a sad nobility to him. He knows that he's the last of his kind and that he must find another of the Silvervale Elkrin or the mist will have used time to win this war. He never gives up on achieving a task, even if it's just another day or night of avoiding the mists. Somewhere deep within him, that optimistic young buck still lives and leaps with joy - someone just needs to release it.

History:

Silvanus lost his entire herd in one fell swoop during an attack by the dreaded Mist. The supernatural fog engulfed his family and he was the only one to escape. Literally, he is the last of his kind. He has been eluding the Mist for many years now and has only been bonded to Sophie for a year or so.

Sophie bonded with Silvanus during her travels into the Celtland moors in search of an old wise woman and her healing elixirs (one of her Runes was deathly ill at the time). After coming face-to-face with the malevolent and seemingly intelligent Mist (much like the fabled Wild Hunt) and being saved by the old crone, she was taken back to the woman's camp. There, Silvanus was summoned and they met. It was certainly not love at first sight. Silvanus, being jaded to happiness from his sad past, didn't want to believe that this young woman was his Rider. Sophie was offended by the Elkrin stag's condescension and nearly refused to answer the bonding call. However, her pride got the better of her and she took her place on Silvanus's back, thus fulfilling the bond. Silvanus took her and the elixir back to the house, where Silvanus learned about the safety of the grounds and how the Mist was unable to find him here; it was like Sophie's residence (and the love harbored within) created a magical null void where the Elkrin vanished from sensing. He comes and goes at his whim normally, but Sophie in distress causes him to come bellowing in like a protective father-figure. Woe betide those who make his Sophie cry!

Name: Fitzroy, "Fitz" to Matteo
Gender: Male
Age: Young adult
Species: Elkrin
Type: Crowned Cavalier

Appearance:
Image
Fitzroy is as his picture shows save for a light leather riding saddle and tack.

Personality:

A better match could rarely be found between two formally-unsuspecting beings. Fitzroy is every bit as impulsive and hormone-driven as any young male Elkrin should be; this constant unconscious discomfort within his own skin drives much of his behavior. He's passionate about the Elkrin tribes, but especially his own. Due to his "need" to prove himself to others, he's generally suspicious and second-guesses literally anything, from spoken words to plans to whether or not to eat dinner. Despite having a crippling stutter to exacerbate his uncertainties about life, he tries his best to be helpful (praise puffs him up like a balloon) and optimistic. He has his jealous moments too, especially in regards to his Rider, Matteo. His Rider is slowly learning exactly how much he can ignore the young stag before plaintive words become headbutts.

History:

Fiztroy comes from the breeding stock of one of the noble families in Alabaster City; only this family is allowed to use the Elkrin as their crest. He had been trained to the Cavalier gait, which shows off the Rider on his back, but he hated the drilling, so...he got an attitude after a while. He started off as the most well-behaved fawn, but as he hit adolescence, he got "lively", as his handler called it. He was always up to pranks or random destruction because he was either bored or just...an adolescent. The noble family decided that, despite his bloodlines (his sire and dam are the finest in the program and throw many a Royal fawn), he would be auctioned off to a Rider so they could spread the word of their breeding program and be rid of the troublesome Elkrin.

Fitzroy was set to be auctioned off one fall morning and had been standing on the platform, most bored with the proceedings. He was doing great until the dog barked behind him. It scared him witless and with a bugle, he pulled free of his handler. His leap took him over most of the crowd and he landed on the pavement, only knocking over one person. Stalls were sent tumbling, people yelled and threw themselves out of his way, and he sent a pyramid of wooden casks a-rolling down Main Street as he galloped along. He turned a corner and suddenly, a young man as in front of him. He skidded to a halt, his hooves sending up gravel, as the young man threw up his hands and grabbed at the flailing lead. Fitzroy tried to yank free for a moment, but then, their eyes locked. The young man's grey eyes widened and he too froze as their minds seemed to warp and then snap back into place. His Rider's name was Matteo.
Y-y-y-you're m-my Rider...!!! he breathed into the man's mind. Matteo jerked back, nearly dropping the lead, before it seemed to make sense to him.
"You bonded to me!!!" Behind them, Fitzroy's old handler showed up, bullets of sweat running down his face. He muttered some choice words as he yanked the lead from his Rider's hands. Matteo uttered a half-hearted cry of dismay, still uncertain about the proceedings, but Fitzroy was anything but. Snorting and groaning through bared teeth, he tightened his leg muscles and stood like stone. His old handler tugged and tugged, cursing up a storm, and suddenly, Fitzroy had enough. With one well-placed kick, he sent the handler flying back down the alleyway and into the street. Matteo could only blink.
I h-h-had enough of h-h-h-him, he thought to his Rider. L-l-let's go. He knelt down, offering his back to his new Rider. The young man had enough sense to hop into place and the rest of the noble family arrived just as they exited into the street. He laid back his ears and stood tall again, letting them see that they no longer had control over him. Thankfully, the noble family endorsed the Bonding.
