I honestly don't know what I was writing about, but I'm glad my writers block has lifted at least enough for this.

I wonder what would happen if you were to follow the winds. Where would the imaginary force take you? What would it feel like to glide along with it, through trees and shaking branches, over highways and through traffic jams that lasted for hours. I wonder what I would see if I were part of the wind and the sky. Many of these thoughts crossed my mind as I tilted my face to the wind, feeling the same invisible fingers I felt every day comb through my hair and lift my shirt. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, willing myself to jump. I didn’t open my eyes as I leaned forward to start running, I would feel the edge before I got there, and jump easily into the water.

I was barefoot, in basketball shorts and a white tee, and the lake was a fifty foot drop beneath me. I felt the ground slope and I allowed myself to open my eyes. A mere six feet before I had to jump. That was about when things started to slow down, my breathing was rough in my ears and the sun was shining too bright. The edge of the cliff seemed to stretch onward, but finally my feet touched the crumbling edge, and I was off.

The air refused to offer and condolence to my fear, only adding to it with it’s fierce winds, the same winds I had just thought of as peaceful and wise. I plunged into the water feet first, my shirt pushed up and shorts went into uncomfortable places, and I had not taken a big enough breath to keep me sustained under for very long. I kicked furiously upwards, using my hands to stretch for the air above me. The surface seemed so far away, and yet it scared me that I might have to break the surface and take another breath after the terrifying jump.

I guess I wasn’t actually that scared at this point. It was more of the thrill seeking and anticipation that was killing me now. The air was dry and hot when I resurfaced, and it was a relief.

You know last week my little daughter wrote such a pleasing poem that I could not believe on her that rhythmic poem. Really that was one of the best short poems!
