woo a music thread

my favourite genre is easily rock, with alternative-rock coming in at a close second because it's a sub-genre. my interests aren't era-specific, though. I'd write a list of my favourite bands but it would be way too long because it would include even bands I listen to on occasion only xD when I was little the only CD I listened to was monsters of rock, a collection of rock songs, and I got hooked on queen, system of a down, whitesnake, alice cooper, billy idol, poison and some others because of it at a very young age.

when I was younger I had a terrible music taste and I thank my dad for introducing me to all kinds of music I like today. I don't have a favourite song right now, but I have a few I can't stop listening to, and my favourite individual songs all come from bands with one song I listen to xD like, I couldn't pick a favourite current song out of the strokes or something like that, but one of my favourite songs right now is holy grail by hunters and collectors, which is an awesome song, but I haven't listened to any other songs by them yet.

the other day I found a band on tumblr someone was raving about and I began listening to it. this was a week or so ago and I've probably listened to the album 8 times now. it's called last dinosaurs and it's not popular right now but they sound amazing and I found out they came from my city :3 we don't get heaps of bands I know here so that's pretty cool, except for powderfinger and stuff my mum listens to.

What music do you listen to?
i'm a "a little bit of everything, except for country" person. i'm a big fan of rock & alt rock. sometimes i'll listen to whatever's popular on the radio.

it changes really frequently but uh, come as you are by nirvana, here is no why by the smashing pumpkins and one hot minute by the red hot chili peppers.

What can't you stand about music?
Everyone in my family has different tastes in music, so I've listened to a lot of different things and am generally accepting of all types of music. I grew up listening to country music, so I genuinely can't understand why so many people hate it. The one type of music I really don't like is screamo. Screaming is not music. However, I don't have anything against most of the screamo/post-hardcore bands or the people who listen to them.

I've been playing the trumpet for about three years and I'm beginning to take piano lessons. I'd love to learn guitar and violin if I get the chance. I think that's about it...hopefully the thread will become a little more active? Music's so amazing.

I listen to everything except for country music; for some reason, that genre just grates on my nerves. I'm also slightly biased towards any instrumentals(including dub step), anime OSTs, and heavy rock.

I hate any deragatory terms/themes in music. You don't need explicitness to have a good song, and if it's excessive, I dislike it immediately.

Does anyone have any suggestions for bands/songs? Possibly rock/metal/etcetera with female vocals?

Within Temptation is a pretty good rock band with a lead female vocalist; that's the only one I can think of right now. >.<
