Mysidia Script - Need help

Postby Astarion » Sat Jan 23, 2016 9:46 pm

Don't know if this should go here, but I need some advice.

I used to be one of the fellow MyAdopts users when it was up and running, and still am fascinated with adoptable websites. I've spent a lot of time, especially asking questions and watching tutorials, but cannot for the life of me figure out how to use the Mysidia code.

I have attempted to use multiple hosting websites, and only once have I ever managed to get it to work. Even then, it was not completely successful, there were many errors and hours drained on my part.

I dream to be a coder and am decidedly disgraced that simply trying to host a code isn't working out for me.

The tutorials offered on the official forum are out-dated and no longer work.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I would absolutely love any advice!

Howdy! I actually used to be a moderator for Myadopts.com, so it's cool to know you're familiar with it!

Getting the mysidia script up and running can be a bit of a pain. If you're wanting to start small and just get up and running then you can contact the owner of Mysidia (HallofFamer) on the Mysidia forums and he will be willing to host it and install it for you, so long as you actively work on your website.

You have to be a bit picky about the host, since it needs to run PHP version 5.4 or newer to work properly, and then some hosts (namely x10hosting) clash with it quite a bit (though there's a fix for this!). I've run Mys 1.3.4 successfully both on 1&1 hosting and, of course, MysidiaHost (through Mysidia).

Once you get the hang of installation it's not too bad, I've done it many times over now, haha.

First you must upload the entire unzipped folder of the latest version into the Public_HTML directory in your website host's file manager. Then you use the file manager to extract all of the files. That done, you can delete the zip folder since you don't need it on the server anymore. Then you need to have a look at these files you've just uploaded, as there's some fixing to do. You change the picuploads permissions to 777, as well as the folders inside of it to that. Then go back to the root directory, and dive into the templates folder. Cache, compile, and config in this folder all need to be changed to 777 as well.

...I have to go now, but I can try to help more later!

Okay, helping continued!

After those file permissions have been changed, you just have one file that needs to be renamed. Go into the folder inc, and then right click on config_adopts.php and rename it to config.php

Once that is done it's time to set up your database! Go to your host, and then go to MySQL Databases (should have a dolphin symbol of some sort). Now, create a new database, and remember the name carefully. Then, usually on that same page, you should see the option to create a User. Do this, and again make sure you have all of the info recorded, it's very important. Create the user, and then on that same page you should see the option to add the user you just created to the database you just created, make sure you do this!

Now, you'll want the user to have full permissions, keep that in mind.

Once that is all done, you can go to http://yoursite.com/install and start the Mysidia installation process! Everything should be pretty self-explanatory, and it *should* work if you've done all of that as described.

As I mentioned, x10hosting is really glitchy with Mysidia, so it may be better to select a different host that has PHP version 5.4+ (you may need to directly contact the host to ask them which version they're running).

Let me know if you need more help :)
